APEC 2027 Conference connects visions, orients the future, and is a new symbol for Phu Quoc Island

The delegates attending the meeting approved and provided feedback on the draft overall plan for the implementation of the APEC Conference and the script for the film announcing the APEC project in Phu Quoc.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee Giang Thanh Khoa requested the creation of a video with the theme "Phu Quoc in the APEC 2027 Green Journey".

Accordingly, the video clip, lasting 4-6 minutes, has five main sections: an introduction to the distinctive images of Vietnam and Phu Quoc; an introduction to APEC 2027 and investment and development opportunities in Phu Quoc; an announcement of projects serving the APEC 2027 Conference; a message from the local authorities and community towards a green, clean, and beautiful Phu Quoc, ensuring environmental protection and investment connectivity; and an affirmation that the APEC 2027 Conference connects visions, shapes the future, and is a new symbol for Phu Quoc Island.

Mr. Giang Thanh Khoa emphasized that the projects and works serving the APEC 2027 Conference are symbols of Phu Quoc's integration, modernization, and international standards. These key projects not only serve the short-term APEC event but also represent a breakthrough in the economic development of An Giang province in general and the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone in particular. Specifically, they aim to help Phu Quoc become a national maritime economic center.

The Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province requested the implementing unit to proactively coordinate with the provincial departments and agencies to quickly finalize the video clip for submission to the Provincial Party Standing Committee for comments; and at the same time, continue to contribute opinions on the overall plan for the implementation of the APEC Conference.

According to the report, An Giang province has proactively carried out preparatory work, basically on schedule. Decisions have been issued to establish steering committees, working groups, subcommittees, etc., to serve the preparation for the APEC 2027 Conference. Detailed plans and tasks have been assigned and implemented in accordance with the requirements and the current organizational structure.

Regarding the progress of preparations for the APEC 2027 Conference, the People's Committee of An Giang province proposed that the Prime Minister consider adding two more projects: the investment project for the coastal road on the eastern side of Phu Quoc Island (44km long, 60m wide, with an estimated total investment of VND 14,100 billion) and the coastal road project connecting An Thoi port (2.7km long, 30-60m wide, with an estimated total investment of VND 2,650 billion).

At the same time, a special mechanism should be applied in the selection of investors for the urban metro line project, section 1 (total investment of VND 9,000 billion, invested under the PPP form). This special investor selection method should be applied to shorten the project implementation time and bring it into service for the APEC 2027 Conference as soon as possible.

To date, An Giang province has completed the selection of an investor for the Phu Quoc International Airport expansion project with a total capital of nearly 22,000 billion VND, an operating period of 70 years, to be implemented by Sun Airport Joint Stock Company.

The province has issued emergency orders for 9 out of 10 projects; and granted investor approval decisions for 3 out of 11 projects. For the remaining 8 projects, the Phu Quoc Economic Zone Management Board is implementing the investor selection process under special circumstances for 7 out of 8 projects, and the Department of Construction for 1 out of 8 projects. The Department of Agriculture and Environment is in charge of evaluating the criteria for solid waste and wastewater treatment technology for waste and wastewater treatment plants.

Regarding construction materials, the province has adjusted the planning, adding two landfill sites from the sea. The plan also includes additional sites at Mui Ong Doi and a new area with a reserve of 1.5 million m³. Soil excavated from large lakes such as Cua Can and Duong Dong 2 (totaling 10.6 million m³) is being utilized.
