Conference on brackish water shrimp breed management and signing of coordination regulations in 2024

On April 17, in Phan Rang - Thap Cham City, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) coordinated with the Provincial People's Committee to organize a conference on brackish water shrimp breed management and sign a coordination regulation for 2024. Attending were Mr. Phung Duc Tien, Deputy Minister of MARD ; Mr. Trinh Minh Hoang, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; leaders of the agricultural sector of 28 coastal provinces and cities and brackish water shrimp farming enterprises of the provinces and cities.

According to the Department of Fisheries, in 2023, the brackish water shrimp farming area will reach 737,000 hectares, unchanged from 2022; export turnover will reach 3.45 billion USD (down 19.8% compared to 2022). The implementation of legal regulations on aquatic breeds will gradually become routine; in many localities, the rate of granting certificates of qualified facilities for shrimp production and breeding will reach approximately 100%; brackish water shrimp production and trading establishments will improve their quality to meet the increasingly high demands of the market...

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Trinh Minh Hoang, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, said: In recent years, shrimp seed production activities in the province have been continuously invested and developed, meeting over 30% of the country's shrimp seed demand. Shrimp seed output in 2023 reached 41 billion post-larvae. The " Ninh Thuan Shrimp Seed" certification mark and the reputation of Ninh Thuan shrimp seed are highly appreciated by the market nationwide. Promoting the strength of shrimp seed production, Ninh Thuan strives that by 2030, the whole province will have 20% of facilities with a minimum capacity of 0.5 billion shrimp seeds/year; 100% of facilities are qualified to produce and nurture aquatic seeds according to regulations and are monitored for disease safety against dangerous diseases; shrimp seed output is more than 60 billion shrimp seeds/year and 100% of shrimp seeds exported from the province are quarantined and qualified; Actively produce 60% domesticated whiteleg shrimp broodstock and 80% domesticated black tiger shrimp broodstock with high quality, disease-free, and disease-resistant.

To achieve the target by 2024 (farming area reaching 737,000 hectares; output 1,065 thousand tons; export turnover 4-4.3 billion USD; 260,000-270,000 parent shrimp; production and rearing shrimp of about 140-155 billion), Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien requested agencies, units, associations, brackish water shrimp production and rearing facilities to proactively source parent shrimp from domestic production through linkages in research and production, paying special attention to linkages between enterprises and research units to quickly put products into production. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development closely coordinates with localities, industry associations and enterprises to promptly resolve difficulties, overcome disadvantages and challenges, maximize opportunities to accelerate production, and ensure the set growth target.

At the conference, the Department of Fisheries and localities signed the "Regulations on brackish water shrimp seed management in 2024" to strengthen management and information sharing, contributing to limiting the circulation of substandard shrimp seed to key farming areas.
