On October 25th, the People's Committee of Hue City announced that Vice Chairman Hoang Hai Minh had signed a decision declaring a state of emergency due to natural disaster, in order to mitigate damage caused by coastal erosion in the Tan An Hai hamlet, Phu Loc commune.
Accordingly, the circulation of Typhoon Than Gio caused very heavy rain combined with storm surges and high tides, damaging much of the coastal infrastructure. In particular, a section of the Tan An Hai coastline suffered erosion extending approximately 500 meters, encroaching 10-15 meters inland, and in some places up to 20 meters.
The waves have eroded right up to the edge of the road, causing some sections to be gouged out by 0.5m to 2m.
This is the only road leading to the Hai Binh residential area, home to 63 households and nearly 200 people. Currently, the sea waves are still rising, posing a risk of further erosion, which could cause the road to collapse and isolate the entire residential area.
In response to this situation, Hue City requested the People's Committee of Phu Loc commune to mobilize forces to be on duty at the scene, erect warning signs, cordon off the dangerous area, guide people to pass through safely, and implement temporary reinforcement measures to limit landslides.
The Hue City Project Management Board for Agricultural and Rural Development Construction Projects is tasked with leading and coordinating with relevant units to urgently develop an emergency response plan, which will be submitted to the Department of Agriculture and Environment for review and approval before implementation.
