iOS 18 will allow iPhone screens and batteries to be replaced from third parties

According to The Verge , Apple revealed that it will no longer disable some iOS features after a phone is repaired by a third party. Specifically, iOS 18 will allow True Tone and battery health metrics to continue working after users install non-Apple screens and batteries.

However, the company warns that even if True Tone is still active, the feature may not work reliably or display colors accurately. That's because Apple's calibration process is designed for its own hardware, and replacement components may not work the same way.

For example, Apple says it’s possible for users to buy used batteries that are advertised as new. When that happens, the iPhone’s battery stats may show a maximum capacity of 100% when it isn’t. So while the company doesn’t block these stats, it does warn users that they can’t be verified and that they may not reflect the battery’s actual health.

At the moment, Apple has not specified exactly when these changes will be implemented, but it is likely to take place in September, when the company will officially release iOS 18. It is also unclear whether this change will apply to all models or just the latest iPhones.
