As of today, it has been 32 days since Apple began taking pre-orders for the iPhone 16 lineup. As usual, after the initial rush of orders, delivery times for new orders have slowed significantly. According to a report from JP Morgan, using Apple’s global product supply tracking tool, this trend offers some interesting signs about the current state of iPhone 16 sales.
iPhone 16 Pro Max recorded strong interest from consumers.
Declining demand for some iPhone 16 models
Delivery times for the base iPhone 16 dropped from four days in week four to three days in week five, indicating a drop in demand for the base model. The iPhone 16 Plus also saw a sharp decline, with delivery times halving from six days to three days in the same period.
Strong demand for iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max
However, while demand for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus showed signs of slowing down, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models still saw strong interest from consumers. The iPhone 16 Pro still had a relatively long delivery time, dropping slightly from 22 days in week 4 to 21 days in week 5. In particular, the iPhone 16 Pro Max impressed with a stable delivery time of 29 days in both weeks 4 and 5, indicating that demand for this high-end model is still very strong.
JP Morgan analysts said that previous reports of weak iPhone 16 sales may have been an anomaly. The stability of delivery times, especially for the iPhone 16 Pro Max, clearly reflected the appeal of this model. While the delivery time for the iPhone 16 dropped from 17 days to 3 days in four weeks, the iPhone 16 Pro Max remained at 29 days, indicating superior consumption.
Compared to iPhone 15 series
Compared to last year's iPhone 15 series, the current trend of the iPhone 16 series also has similarities. Specifically, in the 5th week of 2023, the delivery time for the basic iPhone 15 is 3 days, similar to the iPhone 16 this year. However, last year's iPhone 15 Plus had a waiting time of 15 days after the 5th week, while the iPhone 16 Plus only took 3 days, indicating that the demand for the iPhone 16 Plus is much weaker.
For the Pro models, the delivery times of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max last year were 22 and 33 days respectively after the 5th week. Compared to this year, the iPhone 16 Pro took 21 days, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max took 29 days to be delivered, showing that the new product line still retains high appeal.
Delivery status in major markets
In the US, the delivery time for the iPhone 16 before week 5 remained at 4 weeks, while the iPhone 16 Plus dropped from 7 days to 4 days. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max maintained delivery times of 21 days and 28 days, respectively.
In China, all four iPhone 16 models saw a significant drop in delivery times from week 4 to week 5. Specifically, the delivery times for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus dropped from 5 days to 1 day. The iPhone 16 Pro dropped from 23 days to 20 days, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max dropped from 30 days to 26 days.
In Europe, especially Germany, the delivery time of the iPhone 16 dropped from 4 days to 3 days in the 5th week. The iPhone 16 Plus also dropped from 7 days to 3 days. In contrast, demand for the Pro models in Germany increased, with the iPhone 16 Pro increasing from 21 days to 22 days and the iPhone 16 Pro Max increasing from 29 days to 31 days.
In the UK, iPhone 16 delivery times remain the same at 5 days from week 4 to week 5, while iPhone 16 Plus delivery times drop from 5 days to 4 days. For the Pro models, delivery times remain unchanged at 22 days for the iPhone 16 Pro and 29 days for the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Despite the decline in demand for some iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models, the iPhone 16 Pro series, especially the iPhone 16 Pro Max, continues to be the top choice in Apple's product line. With stable delivery times and high demand in many major markets such as the United States, China, and Europe, the iPhone 16 Pro Max continues to be the top choice for consumers.
