Jannik Sinner accelerates, Joao Fonseca reaches career-high ranking

After winning the Vienna Open 2025 in Austria on the evening of October 26, Jannik Sinner has 10,500 points and is only 840 points behind leader Carlos Alcaraz (11,340 points). This is a signal that the race for the ATP title in 2025 promises to be fierce.

Sinner's advantage is that he did not play in this tournament last year and does not have to defend points. World No. 3 Alexander Zverev is the reigning Paris Masters champion.

Sinner's challenge will increase significantly when he has to defend 1,500 points at the ATP Finals in Turin (Italy) in mid-November. This is another opportunity for Alcaraz to find the missing major title, as well as ensure he keeps the world number one position.

If Sinner wins both the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals, the Italian would still need Alcaraz to score no more than 461 points in both events. This is unlikely, despite Alcaraz's lack of success on indoor hard courts. Alcaraz's best results in the past have been the quarterfinals of the 2022 Paris Masters and the semifinals of the 2023 ATP Finals.

Sinner admitted it was difficult to win the world number one position: "I think I don't have many chances left, but I will fight to the end. In addition, I want to improve myself and move towards new titles in my career."

At the 2025 Paris Masters, Sinner and Alcaraz are in two different brackets. On October 29, Jannik Sinner faces Belgian player Zizou Bergs and Carlos Alcaraz faces Cameron Norrie.
