The Paris Masters continues to be a nightmare for Carlos Alcaraz. The world number one suffered a surprising 6-4, 3-6, 4-6 defeat to Cameron Norrie in the second round, ending his impressive 17-match winning streak in Masters 1000 tournaments. This loss makes it highly likely that Jannik Sinner will overtake Alcaraz as world number one.

The 2025 season was a spectacular one for Carlos Alcaraz, with 8 titles won. He arrived at the Paris Masters with an incredible 17-match winning streak in Masters 1000 tournaments. However, that great run unexpectedly came to an end after a loss to Cameron Norrie.

On the indoor hard court in Paris, the young Spaniard failed to display the agility and precision that are his trademark. After the match, Carlitos looked visibly confused, admitting he had no idea what had happened to his performance.

"I came here with a lot of energy, confident that I could play well. I felt healthy and fit, so I really don't understand what happened. Paris has always been a tough tournament for me. But I will find a way to play better here," Alcaraz shared.

An early defeat in the second round is expected to be a major turning point in the race for the world number one ranking at the end of the year. Now, the door to dethroning him is wide open for Jannik Sinner.

If the Italian player continues his impressive form and wins the Paris Masters, he will officially surpass Alcaraz to reclaim the top spot in the ATP rankings. This puts considerable pressure on the Spanish player.

Despite admitting disappointment and difficulty in facing the "Paris challenge," Alcaraz quickly moved forward with a professional attitude. He set a goal to improve and did not want this poor performance to repeat itself.

"I will prepare as best I can for Turin (ATP Finals) and the Davis Cup. I don't want this to happen again," the world number one affirmed.

Alcaraz's competitor, Jannik Sinner, will play his opening match against Zizou Bergs at the Paris Masters on the evening of October 29th, scheduled to take place at 8 PM.
