Urgently refund 37 billion VND in tuition fees collected against regulations at Thu Dau Mot University

On October 22, at the press conference to inform about the socio-economic, defense and security situation in the first 9 months of 2024 of Binh Duong province, the issue that many press agencies were interested in was the incorrect collection of tuition fees at Thu Dau Mot University.

Sharing with the press, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong - Chairman of the Board of Thu Dau Mot University said that regarding the issue of the 37 billion VND in tuition fees collected against regulations, the school will return them to students as soon as possible.

Specifically, the Chairman of the Council of Thu Dau Mot University informed that the People's Committee of Binh Duong province has recently directed the school to return the difference in the wrongly collected amount to students. Currently, Thu Dau Mot University is reviewing data on students whose tuition fees were wrongly collected. At the same time, the school is also coordinating with relevant agencies to handle the matter as soon as possible. The school is committed to complying with regulations and ensuring the rights of students.

Mr. Cuong said that after the inspection conclusion of the Department of Home Affairs, the school has focused on fixing and conducting a preliminary review of the staff departments. The school is committed to implementing the decision of the Department of Home Affairs.

According to information from Mr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong, the state audit previously announced the conclusion that in the two school years 2020-2021 and 2021-2022, Thu Dau Mot University collected tuition fees from students in violation of regulations with an amount of up to more than 37 billion VND.

Regarding the above issue, the People's Committee of Binh Duong province has directed Thu Dau Mot University to refund to students (in case of failure to refund, the tuition fees collected in excess of the prescribed level must be paid to the budget). In addition, the People's Committee of Binh Duong province also requested to consider handling the collective and individual responsibilities (if any) of Thu Dau Mot University.
