Fostering a love of English in preschool children: A foundation for holistic development.

- Implementing the project on teaching and learning foreign languages ​​in the national education system for the period 2017-2025; Circular No. 50/2020/TT-BGDĐT dated December 31, 2020, of the Ministry of Education and Training promulgating the English familiarization program for preschool children, the Department of Education and Training of Lang Son province has provided close guidance to bring English closer to preschool children, especially kindergarten children. Accordingly, preschools in the province have actively implemented the program to familiarize preschool children with English and have achieved positive results.

Over the past period, the Department of Education and Training has intensified its efforts in disseminating information and directing preschools to proactively inform parents about... importance and long-term benefits of raising children kindergarten learn English in preschool education institutions . At the same time, parents are encouraged to create opportunities for their children to be exposed to this global language from an early age.

Driven by the desire to provide children with opportunities for holistic development, many early childhood education institutions have established themselves.   the province has taken proactive measures. Promote the voluntary registration of English classes for parents ; develop a plan and submit it to the Department of Education and Training for approval. and implement the English language familiarization program in a creative and flexible way. English content is organized separately, and at the same time , cleverly integrated into fun activities, singing, and storytelling, helping children learn naturally and enthusiastically.

Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Linh, Principal of 17/10 Kindergarten in Lang Son City, said: "To help children learn English effectively, the school, together with teachers from the Ekids Foreign Language Center, has developed a rich curriculum and learning content, applying many creative teaching methods to support the Early Childhood Education Program . In the lessons, teachers have ..." Introduce topics that are familiar to children, such as : preschool , the animal world , the plant world , and family. Dear children, the school uses natural phenomena to help them easily absorb vocabulary and grammar. The school has received enthusiastic support from parents of 4 and 5-year-old kindergarten classes (with 95 out of 121 children, or 78.5%) registering for English classes at the school.

Not only the 17/10 Kindergarten, but also other early childhood education institutions in the province are promoting awareness to receive enthusiastic support and cooperation from parents .   English introduction program for preschool children through various methods . Everyone likes it and everyone raises their hand to speak up to get praise from the teacher. I find learning English very fun and not difficult at all."

The initial results of the program have clearly demonstrated its practical benefits. Children not only become familiar with simple vocabulary and sentence patterns but also develop greater confidence and boldness in communication. In particular, early exposure to English helps children develop language skills, critical thinking, and opens the door to exploring different cultures around the world.

Ms. Le Kim Thoa, parent of Dam Ha My, a 5-year-old student at Tuoi Tho Kindergarten in Lang Son City: My child is attending the high-quality program at the school. By the 2024-2025 school year , 11 out of 11 districts and cities, with 79 preschools and over 10,000 kindergarten children, will have been introduced to English, an increase of 1 district, 16 preschools, and 1,650 kindergarten children compared to the same period of the 2023-2024 school year.

Ms. Nguyen Ngoc, Deputy Head of the Preschool and Primary Education Department of the Department of Education and Training, stated: All preschools in the province organize English language introductions for kindergarten children in accordance with the correct procedures and regulations as stipulated in Circular No. 50/2020/TT-BGDĐT . Early exposure to a foreign language contributes significantly to the comprehensive development of children, helping them develop thinking and language skills , expand their communication abilities, and build a solid foundation for future learning.

However, the implementation of the English program for preschool children still faces certain challenges, such as: some units do not have separate classrooms for children to learn English, and there is a lack of specialized English teachers at preschools. In light of these difficulties, in the coming time, the Department of Education and Training will continue to implement comprehensive solutions to effectively introduce English to preschool children in preschools , and strengthen guidance to the units. Continue to advise relevant authorities on investing in infrastructure; strengthen the work Communicate with parents and the community; actively organize seminars , gatherings, and festivals. Simultaneously, direct early childhood education facilities to coordinate with centers. Continue researching and providing support, including tuition fee waivers and reductions, for disadvantaged children so that they can participate in English language learning programs .

It is clear that introducing English to children in preschool is a sound and strategic policy, contributing to improving the overall quality of education and equipping future generations with a solid foundation for international integration.
