Inspiring patriotism from experiential lessons

In anticipation of the 81st anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 36th anniversary of the National Defense Day, schools in Son La have organized many activities and flexible educational lessons, integrating historical content into practical experiences. This innovative approach is contributing to fostering patriotism and national pride among the younger generation.

Coming to Chieng Le Kindergarten, we participated in a lesson called “Thank you, soldier” with the children. The lesson began with the musical “Children of the Fatherland” performed by the teacher and students, depicting the scene of a soldier saying goodbye to his family before joining the army. The lesson skillfully moved from emotion to action through the guidance of the character “AI soldier” and a series of practical challenges. The children transformed into “Tiny soldiers”, wearing backpacks, driving model tanks or crawling through tunnels, performing the task of providing relief to people in flood-affected areas. At the end of the lesson, the content was reinforced through a mind map with 3 branches “Gratitude - Pride - Love”, helping children concretize their knowledge and lessons learned about the pride and responsibility of a Vietnamese citizen.

Speaking to reporters, Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Hoa, Vice Principal of Chieng Le Kindergarten, said: The school focuses on building practical experience activities to innovate lessons and stimulate children's interest. Through the activities, children can transform into characters and take specific actions, making the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers become closer, sowing gratitude and love for the homeland in children's souls.

Mindmap helps children clearly visualize gratitude and pride towards soldiers.

Ms. Cao Thi Thanh Hai, whose child attends Chieng Le Kindergarten, shared: "Seeing my child excitedly show off their soldier uniform and tell stories about tanks and marching soldiers at home, I feel very happy. These experiential learning sessions are truly meaningful, helping the children become more confident and assertive."

At Thuan Chau High School, the school's Board of Directors directed the integration of local history education into regular classes and extracurricular activities, along with activities geared towards December 22. In Literature and History classes, images of historical figures associated with Son La land were incorporated into the lectures by teachers, arousing in students pride in their homeland. During extracurricular hours, students presented and performed short plays recreating history, creating a forum for students to express their thoughts and feelings towards their predecessors.

For Tay Bac University, revolutionary tradition education is concretized by the Youth Union through meaningful activities. In this year's journey back to the source, the Youth Union organized a "Border Lesson" at Milestone 242 and Chieng Tuong Border Post. Here, students listened to "real people, real events" stories about the hardships and difficulties of carrying out the task of protecting the border, about the fierce fight against drug crimes to keep the peace for the village.

Mr. Kieu Tien Luong, Secretary of the Youth Union of Tay Bac University, said: "Border Lessons" is a special political and ideological education model that the Youth Union is maintaining and implementing. Bringing students to the border area, letting them touch the sovereignty markers, witnessing the silent sacrifices of the border guards. This is the most vivid lesson, helping each student to have a deeper awareness of the responsibility of youth to their homeland and country.

Experiential learning sessions and practical activities organized by schools have yielded clear results. History lessons deeply penetrate and imprint on students' minds; they inspire and help the younger generation understand the value of peace , motivating them to strive for excellence in their studies and personal development.
