Lam Dong: Timely rescue of a family trapped due to rising water level of hydroelectric reservoir

On the evening of July 16, the People's Committee of Dinh Trang Thuong Commune (Lam Dong Province) announced that the local government had just mobilized the police, military forces and local people to coordinate to successfully rescue 3 people in a family trapped in the middle of Dong Nai 2 Hydropower Reservoir when the water level rose high and flowed rapidly.

Rescuers reach members trapped in raging waters

Initial information, at about 3:00 p.m. the same day, the locality received a report from the people about a family of 5 (including 1 child living in Tan Lam Lam Ha commune, Lam Dong province) going to play on a small island on the Hydroelectric Lake in Hamlet 2, Dinh Trang Thuong commune) and being trapped due to rising lake water.

At that time, flood water from upstream poured in along with the Dong Nai 2 Hydropower Plant releasing flood water, causing the water level of Dong Nai 2 Hydropower Plant's reservoir to rise.

Family members were brought to shore safely one by one.

It is known that at that time, 2 people were able to move to shore safely, the remaining 3 people including Mr. D.T.Tr. (32 years old), Ms. Tr.T.Th. (39 years old) and child Tr.TKL (12 years old) could not reach shore in time and were stuck.

Upon receiving the news, the People's Committee of Dinh Trang Thuong Commune quickly notified Dong Nai 2 Hydropower Plant to temporarily stop releasing water, and at the same time, mobilized more than 30 officers and soldiers from the Commune Police, the Commune Military Command, the Security and Order Team of Village 2 and many people using boats and life jackets for rescue.

Authorities coordinated with local people to bring the child safely to shore.

At 5:00 p.m. the same day, the functional forces of Dinh Trang Thuong commune used a boat to approach 3 people who were stuck in the middle of the Hydroelectric Lake, then brought them safely to shore.
