In an interview with MSNBC on March 9, President Biden reaffirmed that Israel has the right to defend itself and pursue Hamas forces, but emphasized that Netanyahu's administration must pay more attention to limiting civilian casualties in Gaza.
He said his “red line” in supporting Israel was “not allowing another 30,000 Palestinians to die as a result of pursuing Hamas.”
Some American news sites and magazines (Axios, Wall Street Journal) noted that this is the first time since the Gaza conflict broke out that the Biden administration has publicly acknowledged the "red line" in relations with Israel, saying that this is a sign that Washington has lost patience with Mr. Netanyahu's tough approach.
However, the White House boss also emphasized that there is no "red line" that can make Washington abandon or stop providing military equipment to Israel, because protecting this Middle Eastern country is still of utmost importance to US interests.
Regarding the prospect of resolving the conflict in Gaza, President Biden affirmed that he is still working hard to achieve a 6-week ceasefire, which could begin as early as Ramadan.
President Biden left open the possibility of another visit to Israel and told Prime Minister Netanyahu that the two leaders needed to hold “a very serious meeting” soon about the conflict in Gaza.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Politico , Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu continued to declare that he rejected the possibility of establishing a Palestinian state.
In addition, he also believes that Israel must have full control over all Palestinian territory west of the Jordan River.
