On July 17th, Hung Vuong Gia Lai Hospital announced that its doctors had successfully surgically removed a rare, large bladder stone from a 36-year-old female patient, VTTN, residing in Pleiku ward.
According to Dr. Hoang Van Cong, a resident physician in the General Surgery Department at Hung Vuong Hospital in Gia Lai, the patient had a history of bladder stones since childhood, frequently experiencing painful urination and lower abdominal pain, but did not receive thorough treatment.
Recently, the symptoms worsened, with the patient experiencing painful urination and noticing stones in the urine, prompting them to seek medical attention.
Through imaging and laboratory tests, doctors discovered a stone measuring over 10cm in the patient's bladder, occupying almost the entire bladder lumen.
The stone poses a risk of mucosal damage, urinary tract infection, and seriously affects urinary function. Since it cannot be naturally eliminated, the patient is scheduled for surgery to open the bladder and remove the stone.
The surgery went smoothly; the surgical team removed the "giant" stone and preserved the bladder's function well.
The patient's health is currently stable, progressing well, and they meet the criteria for discharge.
Dr. Hoang Van Cong advises that when experiencing unusual symptoms such as painful urination, frequent urination, or lower abdominal pain, people should not be complacent and should seek medical attention promptly to avoid dangerous complications to the urinary system.
