Inauguration of new nameplate on Ho Chi Minh Boulevard in Mozambique

According to a VNA correspondent in Africa, within the framework of an official visit to Mozambique, on the afternoon of September 11 (local time), Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation met with leaders of the capital of Mozambique, attended the inauguration ceremony of the new nameplate and laid flowers at Ho Chi Minh Avenue in the city center.

At a working session with Chairman of the Maputo City Council, member of the Politburo of the ruling Frelimo Party Eneas Comiche, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan emphasized that Mozambique's capital Maputo has many deep ties with Vietnam, is home to Ho Chi Minh Boulevard, a vivid symbol of solidarity and loyal friendship between the two peoples; and is also home to the largest Vietnamese community in Mozambique.

Regarding economic cooperation, Maputo is also home to the headquarters of the Movitel telecommunications joint venture, a typical economic cooperation project between the two countries.

Welcoming the Vice President and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to Maputo, the city of typical acacia trees, Chairman of the Comiche City Council expressed his wish that Maputo and Hanoi as well as other localities of Vietnam will promote cooperation in potential fields, contributing to deepening the good cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Mozambique.

The two sides agreed to increase delegation exchanges, bringing bilateral cooperation into depth, substance and effectiveness; sharing experiences in building the capital in the direction of innovation, modernity, and sharing experiences in urban management and urban environment.

The Vice President suggested that, taking advantage of the similarities, Maputo and Hanoi as well as Vietnamese localities should increase information exchange on cooperation opportunities in the fields of trade, investment, tourism, culture, education - training, and people-to-people exchange.

After the meeting, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and Chairman of the Maputo City Council attended the inauguration ceremony of the new nameplate and laid flowers at Ho Chi Minh Avenue.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice President expressed his emotion and recalled the warm history of the relationship between the two countries when Mr. Samora Machel, the first President of the independent Republic of Mozambique, named one of the most beautiful avenues in the capital Maputo after President Ho Chi Minh in 1977.

Emphasizing that the avenue named after President Ho Chi Minh has many special meanings and values, the Vice President affirmed that this is a symbol of the historical connection between the two countries, of the sincere feelings between generations of leaders of the Communist Party of Vietnam and leaders of the FRELIMO Party.

Despite the geographical distance and generational differences, President Ho Chi Minh and President Samora Machel, two great sons of the Vietnamese and Mozambican peoples, shared the same goal, the same will for freedom, equality, democracy and progress for their people and all of humanity.

The Vice President affirmed that the avenue and its nameplate not only show respect for President Ho Chi Minh, the National Liberation Hero and outstanding cultural figure of Vietnam, but also are vivid evidence of the solidarity and loyal friendship between the people of the two countries.

On behalf of the Party and State of Vietnam, the Vice President expressed his sincere thanks for the valuable attention and support of the Government of Mozambique and the Maputo capital city government in the process of embellishing, restoring and preserving the boulevard and its nameplate.

President Eneas Comiche expressed his pride and honor that the capital Maputo has a boulevard named after President Ho Chi Minh, the great leader and National Hero of Vietnam.

He said that the preservation and conservation of Ho Chi Minh Boulevard as well as the Boulevard's nameplate bearing his name is a joint effort and action continuously carried out by both sides.

Comiche President emphasized that Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan's inauguration of the new nameplate for Ho Chi Minh Boulevard today is a meaningful event, encouraging people of the two countries, especially the younger generation, to inherit, preserve and promote the good traditional friendship between Vietnam and Mozambique.

He expressed his belief that this is an opportunity for the people of the two countries and two cities to become closer and strengthen cooperation in the coming time.

Also on the afternoon of September 11, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan visited the headquarters of the Movitel telecommunications joint venture in Mozambique and worked with the company's leaders and employees.
