The world's leading chess event held in the last week of 2024 will open on the morning of December 27 in New York - USA, with the participation of nearly 300 players from 64 countries and territories.
The Vietnamese team with three players Le Quang Liem, Le Tuan Minh and Bang Gia Huy will compete in both rapid and blitz chess. According to the seed rankings, Le Quang Liem, Le Tuan Minh and Bang Gia Huy are ranked 22nd, 107th and 171st respectively out of 182 male players participating in rapid chess (the equivalent seeding order in blitz chess is 21st, 94th and 171st). With a high Elo and seeding, Le Quang Liem is the only Vietnamese player capable of competing for high rankings in the tournament, partly because he won the World Blitz Chess Championship in 2013.
