On November 25th, images of three camels appearing in Cao Bang were shared on social media, attracting a lot of attention.
Speaking to VietNamNet reporters, Mr. Dam Van Thang, Chairman of the People's Committee of Xuan Truong commune (Bao Lac district, Cao Bang province), confirmed that the images shared on social media were taken in the locality. However, according to Mr. Thang, camels have been appearing for a long time, not recently.
"These three camels were abandoned by a group of smugglers in the commune, however, this incident occurred in February 2023," Mr. Thang said.
According to Mr. Thang, at that time, after encountering the three camels, the local authorities and the Xuan Truong Border Guard Post temporarily detained them.
"After temporarily detaining them, we notified the people to come and reclaim them. However, after 6 months, no one came to claim them, and now the two camels are still at the Xuan Truong Border Guard Post," Mr. Thang informed.
According to Mr. Thang, of the three camels, one had already died shortly after being brought to the station.
Also in Cao Bang province, in early November 2023, images of kangaroos appearing in the area also attracted much attention.
Specifically, on November 8th, four kangaroos were discovered by locals in Duc Long commune (Thach An district, Cao Bang province), and were subsequently captured by forest rangers.
Speaking to a VietNamNet reporter, Mr. Hoang Van Khanh, Chairman of Duc Long commune, said that the first kangaroo was discovered and captured on the evening of November 8th. The next day, residents found three more kangaroos on the roadside near a patch of bushes.
To capture the four kangaroos, Duc Long commune and the Thach An district Forest Protection Department mobilized about 10 people and used nets to surround them. Each kangaroo weighed about 8-10 kg and was healthy.
Mr. Khanh said this was the first time kangaroos had appeared in the area. Some experts said these were wallabies, also known as mini kangaroos, which originate from Australia.
According to the Cao Bang Provincial Forest Protection Department, three kangaroos being smuggled across the border were discovered by forest rangers, who then abandoned them and fled.
Currently, the Hoang Lien Wildlife Rescue, Conservation and Development Center ( Lao Cai ) is keeping these four kangaroos, including three males and one female.
