Knowing the 2026 New Year's holiday schedule helps students and families be more proactive in planning.

According to the 2025-2026 academic year timetable for preschool, primary, secondary, and continuing education , holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year) breaks will be observed in accordance with the Labor Code and related guiding documents.

Next year's New Year's Day (January 1, 2026) falls on a Thursday. According to regulations, civil servants, public employees, and workers are entitled to one day off with full pay. Since the holiday falls in the middle of the week, no additional compensatory days off will be required. Students will also have a single day off, on January 1, 2026.

According to the 2025-2026 school year timetable announced by the Ministry of Education and Training and applied nationwide, the first semester must end before January 18, 2026; the entire curriculum and school year must be completed before May 31, 2026.

The process of recognizing the completion of the primary school program and the awarding of junior high school diplomas will be completed before June 30, 2026. Enrollment for the first-year classes must be completed before July 31, 2026. The 2026 high school graduation exam is expected to take place on June 11 and 12.

Other national-level examinations will be organized according to the regulations and guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Regarding the principles for developing the school year timetable, the Ministry stipulates that localities must ensure a full 35 weeks of actual schooling (18 weeks for the first semester and 17 weeks for the second semester). At the same time, the plan needs to be appropriate to the conditions and practical characteristics of each locality.
