Man City have just won the Club World Cup, completing a total of five titles in 2023 after winning the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, and UEFA Super Cup. The Club World Cup victory also completes the collection of prestigious club titles for "The Citizens".
Man City are heading into a new chapter after winning the Club World Cup.
"The job is done. Man City have won every possible title. The journey of almost eight years has ended. Now it's time to begin a new chapter and write more beautiful pages of history," said coach Pep Guardiola after Man City defeated Fluminense (Brazil) 4-0 on December 23rd to win the 2023 Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia.
From 2025, the Club World Cup will be played in a new format with 32 participating clubs. The current Club World Cup will become the annual Intercontinental Cup.
Pep Guardiola has managed Manchester City since February 2016, winning 5 Premier League titles, 2 FA Cups, 4 League Cups, 2 Community Shields, 1 Champions League, 1 UEFA Super Cup, and most recently, 1 FIFA Club World Cup.
To prepare for this new chapter, Man City has been pursuing the signing of top young Argentinian football talent, 17-year-old Claudio Echeverri, from River Plate since the beginning of 2024.
Echeverri shone brightly at the U.17 World Cup in Indonesia (held from November 10th to December 2nd), scoring 5 goals and providing 2 assists. This young player is considered a promising talent who could follow in the footsteps of the legendary Messi in the Argentine national team in the future.
Coach Pep Guardiola
Claudio Echeverri is on Man City's radar.
"Manchester City are close to finalizing and announcing the signing of young talent Finlay Gorman (born in 2008) from Leeds United in early 2024. Following this, the club's scouting team will focus on recruiting Claudio Echeverri from River Plate. Negotiations for Echeverri have already begun."
Echeverri has also publicly announced his decision not to renew his contract with River Plate (which runs until December 2024). However, the player also has a release clause ranging from 25 million euros to a maximum of 30 million euros. Manchester City has every advantage in signing Echeverri, as Barcelona's financial difficulties make it difficult for them to participate in the race. Chelsea is also interested in Echeverri, but Manchester City acted faster," journalist Fabrizio Romano shared.
