On September 17, MediaTek announced that it is one of the first partners to work with TSMC (TWSE: 2330, NYSE: TSM) to develop chips using the N2P process – an advanced version of 2nm semiconductor technology.
TSMC's N2P process uses a nanosheet transistor structure, which increases performance by up to 18%, reduces power consumption by about 36%, and increases logic density by 1.2 times compared to the current N3E process.
“MediaTek’s innovation on TSMC’s 2nm technology platform once again reaffirms our leading position in the industry, as we continue to pioneer the most modern semiconductor processes,” said Joe Chen, President of MediaTek.
TSMC also emphasized the importance of the N2P process in its nanosheet development strategy, pledging to improve the technology to meet the needs of energy-efficient computing.
“Our ongoing collaboration with MediaTek is focused on maximizing performance and power efficiency across a wide range of applications,” said Dr. Kevin Zhang, Senior Vice President of Global Sales & Business Development and Executive Vice President of TSMC.
Chipsets using the 2nm process will be applied in flagship devices, computers, cars, data centers and many other fields. This is an important step in improving user experience and device operating efficiency.
MediaTek (TWSE: 2454) is a global fabless semiconductor company that powers nearly 2 billion devices a year. It is a leader in disruptive technologies such as AI, 5G and 6G, providing the foundation for a smarter, more connected world .
