Metro Line 1 is forming new travel habits for people - Photo: CHAU TUAN
For many years, the sight of people jostling on motorbikes and cars amid the flow of people returning to their hometowns or going on holiday has become a familiar image. But this year on the occasion of April 30, the image of "crowded" metro stations No. 1 has brought a new atmosphere.
Going on holiday like every year, but with metro line 1, the feeling of traveling becomes lighter, no dust, no car horns, more civilized... is the opinion of many people taking the train.
According to Tuoi Tre Online , these days, the Ben Thanh Station, City Theater, and Ba Son areas are crowded with people. People are getting on and off the metro trains constantly, with most families and groups of young people choosing the metro as their main means of transportation during the holidays.
Especially on April 30, when the parade takes place, the roads leading to the city center are banned or restricted, so the number of metro passengers is even higher.
Ms. Huynh My Phuong (Binh Thanh District) and her two children boarded the train from Tan Cang station and shared: "We took the metro early, got off at Ben Thanh station to play, then walked to the walking street. Going this way is healthier, the children don't have to jostle and breathe in dust."
Mr. Nguyen Van Thang (in Thu Duc city) said that the "try it once to know" mentality is no longer there anymore. Nowadays, the metro is gradually becoming a real transportation option for city residents. They proactively park their vehicles at stations, take the metro to the city center, and enjoy the holidays.
The stations also become more lively with more people coming and going, and the surrounding shops are bustling.
Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online at noon on May 3, a representative of Urban Railway Company No. 1 (HURC1 - the operating unit) said that the number of passengers during the 3-day holiday from April 30 to May 2 was about 292,668 (reaching 219.1% of the plan).
Of which, on April 30, there were 117,550 trips, on May 1, there were 95,708 trips and on May 2, there were 77,649 trips. To make it easier for people to travel, the operator increased the number of trips to 240 trips per day, extended the train running time to 11 p.m. and made tickets completely free.
