On December 9th, global technology giant Microsoft announced plans to invest $17.5 billion to build artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in India.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said this was the company's largest investment ever in Asia.
On social media platform X, Mr. Nadella emphasized that to support India's ambitions, Microsoft is committed to investing $17.5 billion to help the South Asian nation build the necessary infrastructure, skills, and sovereign capabilities for the AI sector.
Earlier this year, Mr. Nadella also announced plans to invest $3 billion in India to develop AI and cloud infrastructure over the next two years.
This year, in addition to Microsoft, several other global technology corporations have also announced significant investments in India, aiming to attract more users in the world's most populous country and fifth-largest economy globally.
In October, Google announced it would invest $15 billion in India over the next five years to build large data centers and artificial intelligence infrastructure in the country. OpenAI also said it would open an office in India to expand its operations there.
