According to the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC), at 9:50 p.m., electricity consumption in 27 northern provinces and cities (except Hanoi ) reached a record 17,900 MW - 500 MW higher than the peak just set at 1:15 p.m. (17,400 MW).
This consumption level is 3.47% higher than the peak in 2024 (17,300 MW, recorded on August 10, 2024), marking the highest consumption level since the beginning of 2025. This shows great pressure on the power system as the region enters the peak of the fierce hot season.
The reason for the spike in electricity demand is the intense heat that has lasted all day, combined with the increased demand for cooling equipment in the evening – the peak time for households. Temperatures in many areas remain above 35°C in the early evening, forcing people to use air conditioning continuously and at high capacity.
To ensure stable and safe power supply and avoid local overloads, EVNNPC continues to call on people and businesses to use electricity economically and effectively, especially during peak evening hours from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
EVNNPC recommends customers: Set the air conditioner at 27°C or higher, combine with a fan and close the door to increase cooling efficiency; limit the simultaneous use of many high-capacity electrical devices; turn off unnecessary electrical devices when leaving the room or after use; prioritize energy-saving devices, check the safety of the electrical system in the home
In the context of many severe heat waves ahead, EVNNPC is committed to mobilizing all resources to the maximum, improving system readiness, strengthening inspection, monitoring and timely handling of incidents, to ensure electricity for production, daily life and prevention of natural disasters and fires in the summer. EVNNPC respectfully requests the cooperation and sharing of people, businesses and the whole society to overcome the peak of the heat wave, ensuring safe - stable - effective operation of the power system.
