According to the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC), at 9:50 PM, electricity consumption in 27 northern provinces and cities (excluding Hanoi ) reached a record high of 17,900 MW – exceeding the peak set at 1:15 PM (17,400 MW) by 500 MW.
This consumption level is 3.47% higher than the 2024 peak (17,300 MW, recorded on August 10, 2024), marking the highest power consumption level since the beginning of 2025. This indicates significant pressure on the power system as the region enters the peak of the intense hot season.
The surge in electricity demand is due to the prolonged period of intense heat throughout the day, coupled with a sharp increase in the use of cooling devices in the evening – the peak time for household activity. Temperatures in many areas remained above 35°C in the early evening, forcing people to use air conditioners continuously and at high power.
To ensure a stable and safe power supply and avoid localized overloads, EVNNPC continues to urge people and businesses to use electricity economically and efficiently, especially during peak evening hours from 8 PM to 11 PM.
EVNNPC advises customers: Set air conditioners to 27°C or higher, combine with fans and keep doors closed to increase cooling efficiency; limit the simultaneous use of multiple high-power electrical appliances; turn off unnecessary electrical appliances when leaving the room or after use; prioritize energy-saving appliances, and check the safety of the electrical system in the home.
With several more intense heatwaves ahead, EVNNPC is committed to mobilizing all available resources, enhancing system readiness, strengthening inspection and monitoring, and promptly addressing incidents to ensure electricity supply for production, daily life, and disaster prevention and firefighting during the summer. EVNNPC respectfully requests the cooperation and support of the people, businesses, and the entire society to overcome this peak heatwave period and ensure the safe, stable, and efficient operation of the power system.
