On November 4th, the Department of Transportation of Dong Nai province announced that it is coordinating with the Department of Transportation of Ho Chi Minh City to consider adding five bus routes connecting Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh Airport in Long Thanh district (Dong Nai province). This aims to enhance public passenger transportation capacity when Long Thanh Airport is expected to be completed and put into operation in phase 1 in 2026.

Phase 1 of Long Thanh Airport has a capacity to serve 25 million passengers per year. According to forecasts from relevant authorities, approximately 80% of passengers will need to travel between Long Thanh Airport and Ho Chi Minh City and vice versa.

According to the plan, the connection between Long Thanh Airport and Ho Chi Minh City will mainly be made through two main transportation axes: the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay expressway and provincial roads 25B and 25C via Cat Lai bridge, and the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3.

In addition, the Ministry of Transport is also seeking feedback from localities on five connection options between Tan Son Nhat Airport and Long Thanh Airport, including two road options and three railway routes. The road options have lengths ranging from 43 to 62 km, prioritizing direct bus connections and other modes of transport such as taxis and private vehicles. The railway options have lengths ranging from 42 to 45 km.
