QTO - The livelihood cow support model of the Women's Union of Hieu Giang commune is special because it was created to support members in difficult circumstances to improve their lives and is still being maintained by contributions from members who have been supported. Thanks to that, each year, the number of members supported has increased, helping women to have conditions to develop their economy and improve their position in the family and society.

As one of the members who received breeding cows from the very first batch, Ms. Le Thi Hong (born in 1995), currently living in Lam Lang 3 village, Cam Thuy commune, said that the cow is not only a simple means of livelihood but also a "lifesaver" that helps her and her husband overcome difficulties in the early stages of moving out.

Ms. Hong's family situation is quite special, because both she and her husband are disabled. Without health or stable jobs, the couple and their two young children of school age can only rely on a small subsidy. Fortunately, after receiving support for breeding cows, the couple took turns taking care of them effectively, so the cows grew healthy and reproduced well. The money earned from selling the calves helped her family's life become more stable than before.

“It is expected that by the end of this year, my cows will give birth to a new litter. Currently, my husband and I continue to contribute money every month to maintain the fund and support breeding animals for other disadvantaged members in the area,” said Ms. Hong.

Similarly, the family of Ms. Dao Thi Xuan Ly, in Tan Xuan village, Hieu Giang commune, is also a case of being "supported" by the fund contributed by members in difficult circumstances who were supported with breeding cows. The money from selling the calf helped Ms. Ly's family life to be more stable than before.

“My husband and I are calculating, waiting for the cows to grow bigger, then sell some to reinvest, have money to send our children to school. Without the help and support of the Women's Union of Hieu Giang commune, my husband and I would probably still have a hard time. Therefore, every month I save 105,000 VND to pay back to the association president with the hope of maintaining the capital source to support households in difficult circumstances like mine,” Ms. Ly confided.

It is known that the model of supporting breeding cows was built in 2021, with the support of the Provincial Women's Union for members in difficulty, affected by natural disasters. However, with the viewpoint of not giving to the poor for free but letting the poor strive to rise up and help each other, every month, each household receiving support will voluntarily contribute 105,000 VND to maintain the fund. Thanks to that, up to now, in addition to the difficult households receiving initial support, many more difficult households in Hieu Giang commune have received support.

Vice President of the Women's Union of Hieu Giang Commune, Le Thi Ha, said, "We call this model the poor helping each other because through monthly contributions, members in difficult circumstances who are initially supported with breeding animals have joined hands to help many other members in difficult circumstances like themselves. Not only that, this is also the motivation for them to work harder every day. For these reasons, contributions are always made on a voluntary basis, and members are always happy and enthusiastic to participate."

In recent years, not only the model of "Poor people helping each other" but also the work of caring, sharing, supporting and helping poor women members and women in difficult circumstances in general has been actively implemented by the Women's Union of Hieu Giang commune in many good and creative ways. Thanks to that, poor, disadvantaged and disadvantaged women in the area have had the conditions to develop their family economy , escape poverty sustainably and confidently participate in grassroots movement activities, contributing to building an increasingly strong organization. "In the coming time, the Women's Union of Hieu Giang commune will strive to organize more meaningful activities, helping women change their thinking and ways of working in economic development, gradually improving their position in the family and society," Ms. Ha added.
