Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh paid a state visit to the Lao People's Democratic Republic from November 5-7, at the invitation of President Thongloun Sisoulith.
Following the official welcoming ceremony on November 6th, President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh and President Thongloun Sisoulith held talks and attended the signing ceremony of cooperation documents between Mongolia and Laos.
Emphasizing that Mongolia and Laos share a long history, heritage, and cultural traditions, President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh noted that relations between the two countries have developed steadily over the past 60 years based on mutually beneficial support and cooperation.
President Thongloun Sisoulith expressed his belief that this state visit by the Mongolian President would make a significant contribution to expanding and developing the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries, as well as strengthening people-to-people friendship.
The two sides exchanged views on expanding and developing bilateral relations in the fields of politics , defense, transportation, agriculture, education and health, as well as on various international and regional cooperation issues.
The two leaders agreed to further expand the scope of bilateral relations and strengthen cooperation in the areas of trade, economics , agricultural production, tourism, and logistics.
President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh wished Laos success in assuming the ASEAN chairmanship in 2024, and expressed gratitude for Laos' support of Mongolia's intention to become an ASEAN Dialogue Partner.
During the visit, the guest from Mongolia will have meetings with the host country's Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and the Speaker of the Parliament Xaysomphone Phomvihane.
Laos and Mongolia established diplomatic relations on September 12, 1962.
