One athlete withdrew from the women's qualifying round for the Billie Jean King Cup Group III Regional.

(NLDO) - Before the 2025 Billie Jean King Cup Group III Women's Team Tennis World Championships, there are 6 remaining athletes competing in the qualifying round.

The Vietnam Tennis Federation has been authorized by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) to re-host the Billie Jean King Cup Group III in 2025 (the tournament was previously postponed due to the conflict in Jordan). The ITF has organized a selection round to select and add excellent female tennis players with stable performance to the national team to prepare for the tournament.

According to the plan, VTF organized the selection round for female athletes from today, October 27 to 31, at the National Defense Sports Center II - Military Region 7 (HCMC), to select the best tennis players to represent Vietnam to participate in the World Women's Team Tennis Tournament - Billie Jean King Cup Group III, Asia-Oceania region 2025.

This selection round is held to find the two best faces to fill the 4th and 5th positions in the official lineup of the National Team. Accordingly, the list of 7 athletes participating in the selection round includes: Dao Uyen My (HCMC), Tran Tchouassi Louise Natasha (HCMC), Vu Khanh Phuong (HCMC), Le Thao Han (Army), Nguyen Thi Phuong ( Hanoi ), Dang Thi Hanh (Hai Phong), Nguyen Thi Mai Huong (Hai Phong).

However, Army athlete Le Thao Han withdrew before the tournament. Thus, the remaining 6 athletes will compete to find 2 positions to join the women's team at the upcoming international women's team tournament.

The athletes will compete in a round-robin format to ensure fairness and objectivity in assessing their professional ability, physical strength and actual performance. Previously, VTF officially announced the first 3 players to secure a place for the Women's National Team to participate in the Billie Jean King Cup Group III - 2025, including: Nguyen Thi Mai Linh (Hanoi), Ngo Hong Hanh (Army), Phan Diem Quynh (Army).

Thus, after the selection round, the National women's team will be completed with the 5 best players, representing Vietnam to compete at the Billie Jean King Cup Group III 2025, taking place from November 10-15 in Phan Thiet, Lam Dong province.

The leader of the Vietnam Tennis Federation affirmed: "VTF always ensures fairness, transparency and objectivity in the selection process, while creating opportunities to discover and nurture potential young players, building a successor force for Vietnamese women's tennis. The call-up of the national team is carried out in accordance with the VTF selection regulations issued from July 2025" - Mr. Nguyen Hong Son - Vice President and General Secretary of VTF shared.

Immediately after the selection round ends, VTF will also call up the national women's tennis team and the SEA Games 33 team to enter a concentrated training session from November 5 in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Billie Jean King Cup 2025 International Women's Tennis Tournament is an important international sporting event where top female tennis players representing 10 countries compete: Vietnam, Laos, Maldives, Guam, Macau, Saudi Arabia, Brunei, Bhutan, Bahrain, Jordan.

Hosting the tournament in Lam Dong is an opportunity for Vietnam to promote the image of the country, people and the development of the Vietnamese tennis movement to international friends.
