The US has launched a series of new sanctions against the media, naming more Russian individuals and organizations that have been "hit".

The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on Rossiya Segodnya Media Group and its Director General Dmitry Kisilyov, TV-Novosti television network, Eurasia NGO and its Director Nelly Parutenko.

The US Treasury Department's statement said the sanctions target two individuals and three entities "in connection with Russia's destabilizing actions abroad."

The US accused the above individuals and organizations of being involved in information dissemination activities through “cyber capabilities” in regions such as Europe, Africa, North and South America.

US authorities asserted that they were not against the two individuals and three Russian entities “for the content of their reporting”, but were targeting “the (alleged) covert influence activities” which “do not belong to journalism”.

Washington believes that these three media agencies closely coordinated efforts assigned by senior Russian officials.

On September 13, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also accused RT media of being “a de facto branch of the Russian intelligence apparatus.”

“We know that RT has cyber capabilities, engages in covert influence operations and military procurement,” the US Secretary of State told reporters.

Secretary of State Blinken also confirmed that the US, along with Canada and the UK, are launching a joint diplomatic campaign to push back against Russia's efforts to spread disinformation and influence.

The Tass news agency confirmed that the administration of US President Joe Biden has imposed sanctions on three entities related to RT , including Rossiya Segodnya Media Group, TV-Novosti and the non-governmental organization Eurasia. The director of the non-governmental organization Eurasia - Mr. Nelly Parutenko and the general director of Rossiya Segodnya Media Group - Mr. Dmitry Kisilyov were also sanctioned by the US this time.

The Russian Embassies in Washington and Moscow have not yet commented on this issue.
