(LĐ online) - Stand up - Go forward - Grow, that is the journey of the Southern Central Highlands - Lam Dong after 50 years since liberation. In each stage with appropriate decisions, this land has gradually accumulated enough potential to join the whole country in entering a new development stage full of expectations.
● STAND UP
In the long journey full of sacrifices and hardships for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, there was an important contribution from the army and people in the Southern Central Highlands region.
Lam Dong focuses on developing transport infrastructure to pave the way for development. |
With the support of the main force of the Region and the armed forces of Military Region 6, the general offensive and uprising of the army and people of the two provinces of Lam Dong (old) and Tuyen Duc ended in victory. Half a century has passed, but the people of the Southern Central Highlands today still clearly hear the news of consecutive victories in Lam Dong (old) and the image of the revolutionary flag flying over Da Lat town and Tuyen Duc province being liberated (April 3, 1975). From here, the main units continued to attack the enemy, liberating the remaining provinces of Region VI connecting National Highway 1A and Road 20 to support human and material resources to completely liberate the South and unify the country.
After liberation and many changes in administrative organization, on January 6, 1976, the Central Party Secretariat issued a Resolution on the merger of the two provinces of Lam Dong (old) and Tuyen Duc and Da Lat town into Lam Dong province. From here, the Party organization, government, and mass organizations from the province to the grassroots quickly stabilized. However, at this time, the sabotage of the Fulro remnants made the post-war reconstruction of the province even more difficult. However, with the support of the Central Government and the efforts of the Party Committee, government, and people of all ethnic groups in the province, difficulties were gradually resolved, and the socio -economic situation also gradually changed.
● GO TO
In 1983, the 3rd Provincial Party Congress marked a turning point in determining the province's development direction.
Agriculture is the leading front for Lam Dong to gradually eliminate hunger and reduce poverty. The specialized food crop areas were formed not only to ensure food but also to aim at commodity production with Tung Nghia rice, Duc Trong corn, Cat Tien rice... In addition, the area of industrial crops was expanded to become the driving force for the development of the entire economy of the province. Documents show that after nearly 25 years of liberation, the area of industrial crops increased more than 12 times, accounting for 50% of the cultivated area, reaching 50.42% of the total value of the industry and accounting for 30.02% of the province's GDP. The strengths of vegetables and flowers were gradually restored and developed, the specialized areas of Da Lat, Don Duong, Duc Trong were formed.

Recognizing the unique characteristics of landscape and climate, Lam Dong has identified tourism as a strategic strength, a key economic sector and focused on investment solutions in both human resources and infrastructure. Therefore, 25 years after liberation, the tourism industry has brought in revenue of over 168 billion, accounting for more than 6% of the province's GDP. And this number continues to increase until today. Da Lat city in particular is increasingly affirming its brand on the domestic tourism map and reaching international levels.
Throughout history, 47 ethnic groups have always played an important role in the development of this land. Therefore, comprehensive development of ethnic minority areas is a strategic task identified by Lam Dong province. Immediately after liberation, the tasks were carried out one after another: Sedentarization, wet rice production to ensure food, infrastructure investment, building coffee production models... That long and difficult journey was carried out persistently with many creative solutions and support from the Central Government. Therefore, the ethnic minority areas have always been stable and increasingly developed.

Lam Dong has cleverly built a multi-sector economy. Starting from developing household economy to forming farms. The economy shifted from self-sufficiency to commodity production, creating conditions for industry and services to develop. Therefore, by 1999, Lam Dong had collected 390 billion VND in budget. People's lives have improved significantly. In addition, Lam Dong has also highly promoted its internal resources in terms of labor, land, knowledge... to attract foreign investment to promote development.
5 decades with suitable solutions, Lam Dong has ensured social stability, economic development and become the driving force and growth pole of the entire Central Highlands region.
● RISE UP
Like a great river that never stops flowing, the country is always changing. For the past 50 years or today, Lam Dong has always been closely attached to that change.
Lam Dong considers agricultural development as the focus and pillar; processing industry development as the driving force; tourism development as a breakthrough.
Lam Dong is currently the leading locality in the country in developing high-tech agriculture. |
In the agricultural sector, Lam Dong focuses on promoting high-tech agriculture, organic agriculture, and smart agriculture. After 20 years of pioneering in high-tech agricultural production, Lam Dong currently has 69,637 hectares of high-tech production (accounting for 21.2% of the province's cultivated area); 8 high-tech agricultural production areas; 14 high-tech agricultural enterprises; over 465 hectares of smart technology application, focusing on vegetables, flowers, strawberries and tea... This is the basis for Lam Dong to gradually become a national and international center for high-tech research and production.
By the end of 2024, Lam Dong welcomed its 10 millionth tourist. This is a clear demonstration of the remarkable development of the tourism industry, and at the same time affirms the province's continuous efforts in building and promoting the image of Lam Dong tourism to international friends. Lam Dong province strives to become a "Green Paradise" with the attraction of the leading resort - ecological - health care - high-class sports tourism centers in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
Lam Dong currently exports 35 million invitro seedlings to countries around the world. |
Lam Dong prioritizes the development of processing industry, associated with potential and available raw material areas such as: renewable energy, agricultural processing, mining, aluminum processing... Currently, the occupancy rate in Loc Son Industrial Park is 85.1%, Phu Hoi 75.8%, and the occupancy rate of industrial clusters is 56%. Lam Dong is attracting 117 projects with a total registered investment capital of 7,615 billion VND and more than 140 million USD...

With what has been and is being achieved above and other important factors that have been identified, Lam Dong is determined to achieve the GRDP growth target of 9 to 10% in 2025. Acting Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Thai Hoc affirmed: "This goal is completely achievable based on potentials and advantages".
To develop, Lam Dong province is focusing on building transport infrastructure, attracting investment and developing science and technology comprehensively in all fields. At the end of March, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee approved the Bao Loc - Lien Khuong Expressway Construction Investment Project, phase 1, marking an important step forward in developing the province's transport infrastructure. In addition, the locality also continues to upgrade the national highway connecting Lam Dong with neighboring provinces, build a dry port in Duc Trong district and upgrade Lien Khuong International Airport...
Lam Dong is also making efforts to improve the investment environment by removing “bottlenecks”, especially in terms of apparatus and planning, while improving the quality of investment promotion, advertising and developing brands of agricultural products, and promoting administrative reform. Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Hong Thai has directed a thorough review and withdrawal of projects that are not implemented or lack resources. At the same time, check and remove obstacles, speed up the progress of projects to attract investors.
Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Hong Thai affirmed: "Science - technology and innovation will be promoted, becoming a driving force for Lam Dong's economic sectors to develop breakthroughs". Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, creativity and national digital transformation is the "compass" for Lam Dong to develop science and technology. The province spends at least 3% of the total annual budget on science - technology development, innovation and digital transformation, determined to create a synchronous and effective digital environment... All of those synchronous solutions full of concerns and enthusiasm aim to help Lam Dong break through and rise above.
There will be a lot of work to do and it must be done resolutely, so Lam Dong needs a team of cadres with enough heart, enough capacity, ready to act strongly for the development of the province. Therefore, the Acting Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee requires the team of cadres and party members to well implement the motto: "Determined to do right - wrong must be avoided; determined to do good - bad must be avoided; determined to do - bad must be avoided". At the same time, be determined and resolute in arranging and streamlining the apparatus. These are "strong enough medicines" to treat "the disease of cadres working administratively, mechanically; negative, corrupt, harassing people, harassing businesses, only doing things for personal gain, deliberately slowing down work, asking for opinions in circles, blaming the system, blaming fear of responsibility..." as thoroughly emphasized by General Secretary To Lam.
