Following reports that many people are worried that the merger of provinces and the abolition of district levels will change place names on land ownership certificates, affecting the legal validity of previously issued documents and their rights, they are going to have them reissued.
Regarding this matter, the Department of Agriculture and Environment stated that people are not required to reissue their land ownership certificates simply because of changes in administrative units. Changes in administrative place names in land ownership certificates (such as province or district names) do not affect the legal validity of the issued documents. People can continue to use their old land ownership certificates to exercise their rights such as transferring, gifting, inheriting, and mortgaging. When people carry out these transactions and procedures related to land use rights, the authorities will simultaneously update the information regarding the commune/ward name and province.
In cases where citizens need to update their administrative geographical information, they can still make adjustments at the land registration agency without having to obtain a new land title certificate.
