Users can make money from Twitter

According to The Wall Street Journal , Twitter is testing the policy with a group of content creators and plans to roll it out by the end of July. To be eligible for the money, users must sign up for Twitter Blue, have a Stripe account for payments, and have more than 5 million tweet impressions per month over the past three months.

However, posts must pass a standard review. Twitter says posts that include pornography, violence, references to criminal behavior, drugs, alcohol, gambling, and get-rich-quick ads will not be eligible for funding.

One Twitter user, who said the new policy would make the platform more attractive to creators, especially in the face of potential competition from Meta’s Threads, said he had received about $2,300 from Twitter. Meanwhile, a cryptocurrency software engineer with 2 million Twitter followers boasted that he had received $37,000.

This new monetization strategy raises concerns that users could take advantage of it to create controversial or hateful content to attract more comments and increase views.

Twitter has struggled to make a profit for years, and it has faced even more trouble since Musk took over. Many advertisers have left the platform over concerns about the billionaire's content moderation policies, and Twitter's global ad revenue fell about 40% in the second quarter of 2023 compared to a year earlier. In June, Elon Musk said most advertisers were returning to Twitter.

Instagram and Facebook have previously announced $1 billion funds in 2021 to pay creators, while YouTube is the leader in this area, giving creators 55% of their ad revenue.
