On October 13, the Vietnamese Embassy and the Union of Vietnamese Organizations in the Russian Federation launched a fundraising campaign to share with compatriots in the country who have suffered heavy losses in three consecutive storms recently.

Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi emotionally recalled images of the consequences of storms, the difficulties of people who just wanted to preserve their lives from the devastation of natural disasters, the efforts of authorities at all levels and the sacrifices of rescue forces.
In just the last two weeks of September and the beginning of October, Vietnam suffered three consecutive storms. The first storm had not yet passed, but the second storm had already arrived with very strong winds and heavy rains causing flooding, leaving many communes in the provinces of Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, Lang Son, Bac Ninh... almost completely submerged. Even Hanoi was flooded, even more severely than the historic flood in 1971.
According to unofficial statistics, the damage could amount to hundreds of thousands of billions of VND and hundreds of thousands of houses have been flooded. Domestically, the Government and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front have launched a fundraising campaign, even calling for international support to help deal with the consequences of natural disasters, quickly help people stabilize their lives and resume stalled economic activities.
Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi emphasized that October 13 is just the beginning of the fundraising campaign across the Russian Federation. The overseas Vietnamese community, businesses, and associations will continue to demonstrate the spirit of mutual love and support. All donations can be made directly in Vietnam or through official accounts that have been widely announced by the Central Committee of the Fatherland Front .
Following the Ambassador, Chairman of the Union of Vietnamese Organizations in the Russian Federation Do Xuan Hoang, who had just witnessed the storm ravaging Hanoi, shared his concerns about the disruptions and disruptions that the natural disaster would cause to the economy. According to him, the damage would then be even greater and take longer to repair.
Mr. Do Xuan Hoang also pointed out that because Vietnam is located in a coastal geographical position, it is difficult to avoid natural disasters. Any donations are valuable, but in the long term, economic, scientific and technical capabilities will be needed to help the economy and people cope and minimize damage.
He affirmed that the overseas Vietnamese community in the Russian Federation always upholds the spirit of compatriots and looks towards their homeland. Although they have just suffered a great loss due to the fire at the market in Volgograd city, they have enthusiastically supported the Embassy's call.
On the first day of fundraising, in addition to all embassy staff and neighboring agencies, the Student Union, Youth Union, associations, large enterprises in Moscow, sports clubs and overseas Vietnamese individuals raised an amount equivalent to 660 million VND. This amount will be sent back to the country, carrying the affection and hearts of compatriots from Russia.
These days, in addition to Moscow, many provinces and cities with Vietnamese people living in the Russian Federation are also actively donating, responding to the call of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
For example, the community in Upha city has transferred 255 million VND to the Front's fund. In Vladivostok, Consulate General staff and people are still counting the contributions, which could reach hundreds of millions of VND.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin sent condolences to General Secretary To Lam and President Luong Cuong over the consequences of the storms.
At a recent meeting in Pyongyang, North Korea, Chairman of the United Russia Party and Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev sent condolences to General Secretary To Lam about the loss of life caused by the storms.
