Many faces from Ha Tinh province excelled in conquering the Resident Doctor exam

(Baohatinh.vn) - Many candidates from Ha Tinh have excellently passed the residency exam at Hanoi Medical University - a training program considered the most prestigious and competitive in the Vietnamese medical system.

In recent days, many social media platforms have been bustling with images of “Match Day” 2025 at Hanoi Medical University - the day of announcing the results and selecting majors of the residency exam, which took place on September 9. This is considered an annual “specialty” of Hanoi Medical University, attracting the attention of the medical community.

This year, among the 426 doctors admitted to the residency program, there are many faces from Ha Tinh .

The most typical is Tran Duc Huy (born 2001, from Duc Thinh commune), who scored 23.5/30 points - the highest among the candidates from Ha Tinh and ranked 10th nationwide. Huy is a former student of Tran Phu High School, graduated from the medical program at Hanoi Medical University in late August 2025 and chose the major of Obstetrics and Gynecology to study residency at this school.

Besides Huy, many other resident doctors from Ha Tinh also made their mark in the top 100 of the exam, such as: Bui Tuan Thanh (ranked 19th, scored 23.25 points, from Gia Hanh commune), chose Plastic Surgery; Nguyen Duy Trung Kien (ranked 26th, scored 22.91 points, from Thanh Sen ward), also chose Plastic Surgery; Vo Thi My Duyen (ranked 49th, scored 22.42 points, from Thach Xuan commune), chose Anesthesia and Resuscitation; Le Sy Hao (ranked 64th, scored 22.17 points, residing in Thach Ha commune), chose Diagnostic Imaging, all of whom studied at Hanoi Medical University.

Not only are there prominent names in the high-scoring group, many other candidates from Ha Tinh also had the honor of becoming resident doctors, such as: Nguyen Thi Thao (ranked 126th, from Dong Loc commune) and Nguyen Hoang Anh (ranked 152nd, from Ky Hoa commune) both majoring in Internal Medicine at Hanoi Medical University; Bach Ngoc Van (ranked 342nd, residing in Thanh Sen ward) majoring in Pediatrics...

Residency is a specialized training program that selects the best students in the medical field. This model originated in France, then spread to European countries, the US and around the world. Vietnam currently has 13 schools training residents.

Resident doctors are strictly selected through an entrance exam with the requirement that candidates must be under 27 years old, have never been disciplined and can only take the exam once in their life. The exam consists of 4 subjects: two specialized subjects, one basic subject and one foreign language (English, French or Chinese), each subject lasts 90 minutes.

The Hanoi Medical University residency exam consists of 3 exams: Basic (knowledge of four main subjects: Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Genetics and some other subjects such as Microbiology, Pharmacology, Pathology and Embryology), Specialty 1 (Internal Medicine, Pediatrics), Specialty 2 (Surgery, Obstetrics). Each exam consists of 120 questions, in 90 minutes.

This year’s exam is the largest ever, with nearly 1,000 candidates. Most of them are the first generation of doctors to graduate from the Hanoi Medical University’s innovative medical training program. The exam bank has 2,000 questions, completely new compared to previous years.
