The Thai Nguyen Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Institute of Archaeology have just released a preliminary report on the results of the 6th excavation of the Nguom rock shelter site, after more than a month of work (from May 20 to July 5).
The Ngườm rock shelter site, located in Thần Sa commune, Thái Nguyên province, was excavated in 2024, during which scientists identified approximately 6 to 7 cultural layers. In this latest excavation, archaeologists have encountered cultural layers 7, 8, 9, 10, and possibly up to layer 12.
These are the first recorded instances of searching for and consuming plant seeds in Vietnam, found at an archaeological site dating back over 124,500 years.
