Ninh Thuan has long been known as the "land of sunshine and wind" with an average of more than 2,800 hours of sunshine per year, solar radiation intensity of over 230 kcal/cm²/year and an average wind speed of 7.5 m/s. With such outstanding advantages, Ninh Thuan has soon recognized the opportunity to make a difference. Evidence of this transformation is that the whole province currently has 57 renewable energy projects in operation, with a total capacity of nearly 3,750MW. Renewable energy is now not only a simple economic sector but has become one of the solid pillars, creating strong breakthroughs for the province's economic growth.

After 5 years of working in Ninh Thuan , Ha Do Group has successfully deployed 2 renewable energy plants with a total capacity of 100MW. These projects not only generate clean energy but also contribute about 40 billion VND to the state budget each year, while creating stable jobs for dozens of local workers. With confidence in the province's potential, Ha Do is continuing to research and promote new energy projects, including the 50MW Phuoc Huu Wind Power Plant and 2 other energy projects. Mr. Hoang Van Chien, Director of 7A Wind Power Plant, Ha Do Group said: The development of renewable energy projects has transformed Ninh Thuan from a locality facing difficulties in economic development to become the energy capital of Vietnam. We are very happy that the province is very interested in the investment process, creating the best conditions for project implementation. With the right investment orientation and advantages, the initial results have affirmed Ninh Thuan's potential for renewable energy development.

Up to now, Ninh Thuan is proud to be the leading province in the country in deploying renewable energy. In 2024, the total electricity output to the grid will reach about 8.5 billion kWh, of which the renewable energy sector will contribute about 23% to GRDP and 24% to the province's budget revenue. This has made an important contribution to socio-economic development, economic restructuring, job creation and continuously put Ninh Thuan in the top localities with the highest economic growth rate in the country.

The impressive figures on renewable energy development in the province are further demonstrated through changes in localities, typically Phuoc Minh commune, Thuan Nam district. From a barren, saline land with ineffective agricultural production, this place has "changed its skin" thanks to 9 solar power projects and 3 wind power projects. More than 1,070 hectares of barren land have now become green energy plants, bringing significant revenue to the budget and stable jobs for many local workers. Mr. Nguyen Hau Huu, Deputy Head of Energy Department, BIM Energy Group Joint Stock Company said: Currently, at the Quan The salt project, BIM Group has utilized 31 hectares to invest in a green economic complex, combining salt production with renewable energy, both improving land use efficiency and contributing about 1 billion kWh of electricity per year to the national grid, creating jobs for 70 local workers with stable income. In the coming time, BIM Group will continue to research and invest towards implementing high-tech post-salt complex projects, promoting the province's strengths in the salt industry, renewable energy industry and seaports. Thereby creating new industries, accompanying supporting industries, in line with the orientation of building the Southern economic region into a seaport economic zone.

With a large potential for renewable energy development, the provincial planning continues to identify energy as a breakthrough and spearhead economic sector of the locality. Comrade Dao Van Rot, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, said: According to the approved Power Development Plan VIII, by 2030, Ninh Thuan plans to develop an additional 9,223MW of electricity, including key projects such as: LNG Ca Na (1,500MW), Bac Ai pumped-storage hydropower (1,200MW), Phuoc Hoa pumped-storage hydropower (1,200MW), onshore and nearshore wind power (554MW), along with the potential to develop 2,000MW of offshore wind power in the South Central region. To realize this plan, the province advocates effectively exploiting the potential of sunlight, wind, fallow land, large reservoirs, deep-water seaport infrastructure and long coastline to attract investment in solar power, offshore and coastal wind power, pumped storage hydropower, LNG gas power and new energy sources such as hydrogen, tidal, biomass... The province also focuses on synchronously developing transmission infrastructure, electricity load and supporting industries, striving to increase the total power capacity of the province to 11,800MW by 2030.

In particular, after many years of suspension, the Ninh Thuan nuclear power project has been restarted, aiming to diversify supply sources, ensure energy security and green energy transition, achieving the goal of zero net emissions by 2050 as committed at COP26. It is expected that Ninh Thuan 1 and 2 Nuclear Power Plants will be put into operation before 2035. With this policy, it has opened up opportunities for Ninh Thuan to soon become the energy capital of Vietnam. Currently, the province is actively preparing all conditions to implement large energy projects, key projects of national significance, ready for a strong step forward in the energy industry and realizing the goal of becoming a key economic zone in the southern coastal region of the country.

With abundant resources of sunlight and wind, barren, barren lands have been brought to new life thanks to the development of renewable energy. This is the right direction, bringing Ninh Thuan up from its potential and advantages. With determination and aspiration, Ninh Thuan is gradually realizing the goal of becoming the clean energy and renewable energy center of the country.
