Farmer Director

Telling the story of investing in processing products from Cordyceps to achieve 4-star OCOP, Mr. Tran Tai (Tan Binh village, Bau Chinh commune) said that he has been passionate about in-depth research on mushrooms since he was a university student. After graduating with a master's degree in Biotechnology from the University of Natural Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University), he decided to start a business by growing mushrooms in Chau Duc district.

During 8 years of hard work and experience, his passion urged him to gradually conquer and successfully cultivate Cordyceps. Up to now, he has 8 products processed from Cordyceps, of which 2 products (Vinabiomush Cordyceps tea bags and Vinabiomush dried Cordyceps) achieved 4-star OCOP; 2 products achieved 3-star OCOP; 3 typical rural industrial products at the provincial level...

Each year, the facility supplies more than 1,000 boxes of cordyceps tea bags, 500kg of dried cordyceps mushrooms, with a profit of about 2 billion VND. He has expanded the factory to 1,250m2 , of which the mushroom cultivation room area is more than 200m2 . He takes advantage of social networks and e-commerce platforms to promote the product. Thanks to that, many customers come to visit, learn from experience and place orders. In addition to promoting production and business activities, he also supports seeds, provides technical guidance, and helps more than 50 workers inside and outside the province develop a cordyceps mushroom growing model.

Taking advantage of the natural advantages of the vast vegetation (mainly fruit orchards and wild flowers), Mr. Truong Nhat Truong, a farmer member of Tien Thanh hamlet (Quang Thanh commune) has an income of more than 250 million VND/year from the stingless bee farming model. After 7 years of building, Mr. Truong has more than 800 beehives raised in an area of 150m2 .

Pointing to the brick wall, where stingless bee hives are placed, Mr. Truong happily shared that a customer from Lam Dong province had just come to visit and ordered more than 500 boxes of bee seeds. According to Mr. Truong, he has enthusiastically shared his knowledge of beekeeping, honey collection, nest building, colony separation, etc. with farmers. He hopes that the stingless bee keeping model will be widely replicated, becoming an effective economic model for rural people to take advantage of natural flowers and idle labor.

Forming a new team of farmers

In production practice, many farmers have successfully started their own businesses from their own land, mobilizing many other farmers to participate in the production chain, the product consumption chain with great value. This class of farmers who have started their businesses are not only good at production but also understand production organization, investment in processing and especially the market, proactively taking the initiative in output for agricultural products.

Visiting agricultural models in Chau Duc district, Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association Mai Minh Quang shared that because they come from a farmer background, the directors of enterprises and cooperatives are very studious. They understand farmers, understand their advantages as well as their disadvantages. They have closely coordinated with scientists, financiers, consumers and especially farmers to build a chain of links in production.

In Chau Duc district, many successful farmers have started their own businesses, become business owners, and cooperative directors, and built chains linking agricultural products from production to processing and consumption, especially exporting to demanding markets. Typical examples include: Mr. Hoang De Tam, Lien Loc hamlet, Xa Bang commune, with a model of growing oyster mushrooms and black fungus; Mr. Doan Xuan Khiem, in Song Cau hamlet, Nghia Thanh commune, with a model of raising commercial eel; cooperatives growing cocoa, durian, and pepper for export, etc.

Farmers' Associations at all levels always create favorable conditions in terms of capital, market and provincial policies to develop an ecosystem to support farmers to start businesses, especially in the agricultural sector; continue to effectively implement the movement "Farmers compete in good production and business, unite to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty".

“The requirements of international integration require the formation of a team of farmers with new thinking and new knowledge to approach and apply science and technology to shift from small-scale, fragmented production to large-scale commodity production, following the value chain and close to market demand. From there, it contributes to enhancing the position of agricultural products and increasing the value of agricultural products,” said Mr. Mai Minh Quang.
