At the age of U60, Meritorious Artist Vu Luan has a rather peaceful life. After taking care of the funeral of his adoptive father, the late artist Vu Linh, he performed in plays with Binh Tinh's troupe and helped his student win a contest on reformed opera and traditional singing.
Get noticed for his talent and resemblance to Vu Linh
Vu Luan was born in 1972. He has many impressive roles in plays: Luong Son Ba - Chuc Anh Dai, Giang Son My Nhan, Troi Nam...
Unlike many other artists, he comes from a working-class family, long residing in Ba Queo area (Tan Binh district, Ho Chi Minh City). He is the second youngest child in the family, and as a teenager often worked as a tailor, occasionally following his uncle as a painter's assistant.
According to him, every time he received his wages, his fellow workers would invite each other to sing together. Later, they discovered that he had a good voice and advised him to take singing lessons.
Encouraged by his friends and his mother, he began to study singing with artist Ut Tron, who praised him for his special talent. His singing career is considered to have started in 1985, however, due to the lack of introduction and support in his career, he had to choose to sing at artist bars and weddings to earn extra income.
During one of his performances, he was noticed by a special guest, artist Bach Long. At that time, he was organizing and managing the Bach Long Children's Group, which included children of artists from two disbanded traditional opera troupes, Huynh Long and Minh To.
In 1992, he was invited by Bach Long to join the Bach Long Children's Group, receiving further training in singing and dancing techniques. He was the one who gave him the stage name Vu Luan, explaining that it was similar to artist Vu Linh.
Because the group had too many actors and not enough actors, he was almost always assigned the main actor role to sing with Trinh Trinh and Tu Suong, who were young actors born into famous artist families. His reputation began to be known to the audience. From then on, Vu Luan's name became more and more famous, reaching the provinces of the West and the Southeast. And many touring groups invited Vu Luan to join when he was just over 17 years old.
In 2003, artist Vu Luan organized the live show “Reaching to the Future”. In the same year, he won the A prize for national music CDs with the live show “Reaching to the Future”.
Regarding the father-son relationship with the late artist Vu Linh, Vu Luan said that he once became a phenomenon because he looked like his adoptive father Vu Linh. Thanks to that, he was invited by many show producers and from then on met and worked with Meritorious Artist Vu Linh. Whenever there was a father-son role, the director invited Vu Luan to act with Vu Linh and thanks to that, he became Meritorious Artist Vu Linh's adopted son in real life. The first play the two father and son collaborated on was Missed the Love Ferry.
A quiet life behind the spotlight
Vu Luan said that many audiences are interested in his private life, worried that he will be lonely behind the stage lights. However, the male artist is satisfied with his current life. He said that he always wants to take advantage of the time he still has to devote his heart to art, repay his ancestors and contribute to passing on the "fire of the profession" to young actors.
Previously, when the late artist Vu Linh passed away, he was the one who stayed by his adoptive father's coffin. The male artist, along with Binh Tinh, Hong Loan,... were the ones who took care of the funeral for the late artist.
After that, he went to France to perform with the Huynh Long classical opera troupe managed by Binh Tinh.
In the recently broadcast program Talented Traditional Music, he helped his student win the highest title and the prize of 100 million VND.
Despite his brilliant career, Vu Luan is still single at the age of 51. He has had several relationships but none of them were successful.
Vu Luan revealed that he once dated a girl, but when he entered the profession, he found himself loving the job more so the two broke up halfway.
After that love affair, Vu Luan had to wait a long time before opening his heart to another girl. She was nearly 20 years younger than him. She was also an admirer of his.
Vu Luan said he and his girlfriend were very compatible. He often went to sing in the provinces, and she wanted to go along and take care of him. Even though they loved each other so much, because her family wanted him to quit singing to do business, they broke up.
Currently, Vu Luan is still single and quite secretive about his love life.
