These are leading farmers who not only promote the development of the farmers' emulation movement for production and business excellence in the locality, but also spread their methods of wealth creation to other farming households.
In Bung Binh 1 hamlet, Hoa Tan commune, there is a farmer who has become a millionaire thanks to his hard work and successful transformation of his production model. That is Mr. Le Trung Tinh.
Mr. Le Trung Tinh and his wife review the awards presented by various levels of government, acknowledging the fruits of their labor.
Mr. Tinh recounted: “When we switched from rice farming to shrimp farming, the villages of Hoa Tan commune were as joyful as a festival. Every household and every person was preparing their land to raise shrimp. My family also converted 5 hectares of unproductive rice land to extensive shrimp farming. On average, the money from selling 1 kg of shrimp at that time could buy 10 bushels of rice. The first shrimp harvest was successful, and every day I set aside a little money to buy gold for safekeeping. After a few years of saving, I was able to build a house worth nearly 40 taels of gold.”
As a farmer who dares to think outside the box, is always innovative, and applies new methods to production, in 2011, Mr. Tinh boldly converted half of his extensive shrimp farming land to intensive shrimp farming and continued to succeed. A few years later, he decided to switch to super-intensive shrimp farming.
To achieve successful shrimp farming seasons, Mr. Le Trung Tinh regularly observes and manages his ponds using the correct techniques.
By adhering to proper farming techniques, ensuring environmental hygiene, and drawing on accumulated experience, most of his shrimp farming ventures have been profitable. In particular, Mr. Tinh earned over 1 billion VND from four shrimp farming seasons in 2023.
Mr. Nguyen Ly Kha, Chairman of the Hoa Tan Commune Farmers' Association, highly appreciated the economic achievements resulting from Mr. Le Trung Tinh's diligent work and contributions to the locality in general and the commune's Billionaire Farmers' Club in particular.
A few years ago, Mr. Le Van Ut's more than 3.5 hectares of extensive shrimp farming land in Ganh Hao 1 hamlet did not yield high income. After receiving enthusiastic guidance on super-intensive shrimp farming techniques from Mr. Tinh and some members of the club, Mr. Ut boldly converted 1 hectare to super-intensive shrimp farming and earns more than 1 billion VND in profit each year. Currently, Mr. Ut is a member of the Hoa Tan Commune Billionaire Farmers Club.
Currently, Ca Mau City has two Billionaire Farmers Clubs in Tan Thanh and Hoa Tan communes, with a total of 34 members. The members are exemplary farmers with outstanding production and business achievements from the city level upwards, achieving annual revenue of 1 billion VND or more, and farmers with less than 1 billion VND in annual revenue but who have a positive impact on the club's activities.
The economic models of these farmer billionaires have become exemplary models, encouraging and motivating officials, members, and farmers in Ca Mau City to compete in production and business, and are an important factor contributing positively to the socio-economic development goals of the locality. "Although the club was established not long ago, the influence and contributions of these members to the local economic development are significant," said Mr. Nguyen Lung Lang, Chairman of the City Farmers' Association.
