Time magazine explains the reason, stating that the US President-elect "has created a historic comeback... spurred an unprecedented political restructuring... reshaping the US presidency and changing America's role in the world."

Asserting that "Trump's political resurgence is unprecedented in American history," Time added that he "spent six weeks campaigning in a New York City courtroom, the first former president to be prosecuted," yet "this did not diminish his support."
This is the second time Donald Trump has been named Person of the Year by the prestigious American magazine; he previously received the title in 2016, after winning his first term as President.
Time's honoring of Donald Trump was not difficult to predict, as the magazine has typically awarded its Person of the Year title to the winner of US elections since President George W. Bush in 2000.
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were named Person of the Year in 2020, after they defeated Trump in that year's election. Singer Taylor Swift received the title in 2023.
Donald Trump is scheduled to take office on January 20th.
