(Dan Tri) - Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, was appointed to the position of Director of the General Political Department and promoted to the rank of General.

On the morning of November 4, President Luong Cuong presided over the ceremony to announce and present the Decision to appoint the position of Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army and to present the Decision to promote the ranks of General and Senior Lieutenant General to officers of the People's Army.

At the ceremony, authorized by the President, Deputy Head of the Office of the President Nguyen Hoang Anh announced the President's Decision to appoint Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission, to hold the position of Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army.

The President also decided to promote Nguyen Trong Nghia from Senior Lieutenant General to General.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia was born in 1962, his hometown is Tien Giang, now Dong Thap province. He is the Secretary of the 13th Party Central Committee; Member of the 12th and 13th Party Central Committee; National Assembly Delegate of the 14th and 15th terms and has a Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences and Humanities.

Starting as a soldier, Mr. Nghia had a long time working in the army and held many positions in the force.

From October 1988 to August 1995, he held the position of Political Commissar of Information Regiment 23 (Military Region 7) and was successively promoted to the rank of Captain and then Major.

He was then Deputy Regiment Commander for Politics of the 23rd Information Regiment (Military Region 7), promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

After being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and then Colonel, he successively held the positions of Deputy Head, Head of Propaganda Department of the Political Department, Military Region 7; Deputy Political Commissar and then Political Commissar of Division 5, Military Region 7; Deputy Chief of Politics of Military Region 7.

During the two years from August 2010 to August 2012, he was a Major General, Political Commissar of the 4th Army Corps, then promoted to Lieutenant General and then Senior Lieutenant General, holding the position of Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army.

Since February 2021, he has been Secretary of the 13th Party Central Committee, holding the position of Head of the Central Propaganda Department, then Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department after the merger.
