(CLO) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared on Sunday that he believes he can restore relations with US President Donald Trump after their tense meeting in the Oval Office.
However, he stressed that the negotiations needed to continue in secrecy.

President Zelenskyy reiterated that Ukraine would not cede any territory to Russia in any peace agreement. He also stated his readiness to sign a mineral exploitation agreement with the United States and considered Sunday's discussions with European leaders on sending a draft peace plan to the US as an important step forward.
Speaking at an airport in London after a meeting with European leaders, Zelenskyy expressed optimism and thanked European countries for their support, but also acknowledged disappointment with the meeting in the Oval Office. He stressed that Ukraine would continue to maintain dialogue with the United States.
Zelenskyy also expressed his readiness for any scenario: "I believe our relationship will continue. But I think discussions like the recent ones should be kept confidential to increase efficiency."
At the conference, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer proposed a European-drafted peace plan to be sent to Washington, hoping the US would guarantee Ukraine's security. Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron proposed a temporary one-month ceasefire with Russia.
President Zelenskyy also affirmed Ukraine's readiness to sign a mineral exploitation agreement with the US, a crucial step in the plan to re-establish relations between the two sides. In contrast, Trump argued that Ukraine should use these resources to repay its debts for financial assistance from the US.
