Promoting the value of the cultural heritage of folk performing arts of Van Tien Poetry Festival, Ben Tre province

The People's Committee of Vinh Long province has just received a certificate recognizing the Van Tien folk poetry performance art in Ben Tre province as a national intangible cultural heritage.

The folk performing art of Van Tien Poetry Recitation in Ben Tre province was included in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) in June 2025.

This is the common joy of all the people in the province to have another cultural heritage of the homeland that our ancestors created, built, preserved, passed on, preserved, promoted and shined.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vinh Long province was assigned to research and develop a project to preserve and promote the value of "Van Tien Poetry Folk Performance Art of Ben Tre Province" associated with the province's cultural activities; build unique cultural tourism products, helping visitors explore and experience; at the same time, spread the heritage values ​​and unique cultural features of the locality to people inside and outside the province; organize training courses to pass on Van Tien Poetry Folk Performance to the young generation.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the Department of Education and Training of the province organizes the teaching and transmission of the art of Van Tien Poetry Recitation to students, including it in extracurricular activities with new content to develop language thinking, moral education and personality for the young generation.

Van Tien Folk Poetry Performance Art of Ben Tre province is one of 19 national intangible cultural heritages of Vinh Long province.

The genre of Van Tien Poetry is associated with the name and content of the famous Nom poem by poet Nguyen Dinh Chieu, Luc Van Tien , composed around the early 1850s.

Van Tien spoken poetry is a folk cultural product created by Southern people, originating from the spoken poetry of the Central region but with many improvements (in tone and expression) to suit the language, personality, soul and performance space of the South.

Van Tien Poetry was born on the basis of the need to popularize patriotic poetry and literature, expressing the spirit of fighting without submitting to tyranny, using intelligence and talent to serve the country and the need to spread morality and honor the virtues of the Vietnamese people.
