The decision was made after a meeting on power transfer and avoiding chaos in Syria held on December 9, with the participation of opposition commander Ahmed Al-Sharaa and former Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Jalali.

Mohammed Jalali has agreed to hand over power to the opposition-led Salvation Government , a government based in Idlib in northwestern Syria that has governed the area for years.

Mohammed Al-Bashir, the head of the transitional government, said the government is tasked with managing the country's affairs until March 1, 2025.

Meanwhile, in-depth meetings are being held between the political wing of the opposition and foreign diplomatic missions to discuss Syria's security and political future, following the collapse of President Bashar Al-Assad's regime.

The political opposition has pledged to create a safe environment for returning Syrians and ensure a transparent process to resolve past issues, with the aim of achieving lasting peace. It also stressed the need for comprehensive reconciliation in society, based on justice and equality, building institutions that meet the aspirations of the Syrian people, aiming to strengthen Syria’s relations with other countries based on mutual respect, as well as promoting Syria’s role in the region and globally.
