The UN Deputy Secretary-General assessed that Vietnam is in the process of becoming a powerful country, with an increasingly important role in science , technology development and innovation.
On the morning of January 6th, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. Amandeep Singh Gill, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations for Digital and Emerging Technologies, and Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Technology, who is currently visiting Vietnam. The Prime Minister noted that the Deputy Secretary-General's presence in Vietnam demonstrates the UN's commitment to promoting international cooperation in technology, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI), digital transformation, and innovation. As a responsible member of the international community, Vietnam highly values the role of the United Nations and values such as multilateralism, peace , and sustainable development. The UN is increasingly playing a leading role in maintaining peace and security and promoting sustainable development, science, technology, and digital transformation.

The Prime Minister stated that Vietnam considers science, technology, and innovation as objective requirements, strategic choices, and top priorities. Digital transformation, big data, the Internet of Things, cloud computing, quantum technology, semiconductors, clean energy, and new materials are new drivers for national development. UN Deputy Secretary-General Amandeep Singh Gill highly appreciated Vietnam's increasingly important role in the development of science and technology and innovation, including AI. Mr. Amandeep Singh Gill said that his visit to Vietnam aimed to implement the results of the UN Secretary-General's visit to Vietnam in 2022, as well as the meeting between the UN Secretary-General and General Secretary and President To Lam at the Future Summit. The UN Deputy Secretary-General believes that digital technology presents a great opportunity for each country to make a leap forward, with Vietnam being a prime example. The United Nations is making efforts to promote cooperation and strengthen solidarity in technology development; focusing on the deployment, governance, and international cooperation in AI. The Deputy Secretary-General also emphasized the role of the United Nations in shaping the future of AI and ensuring equal opportunities for all in this field. The UN is promoting the implementation of the Global Digital Compact to provide a comprehensive framework for global governance of digital technologies and AI; in particular, it is promoting the organization of the AI Governance Policy Forum to unify common approaches, share experiences, learn from each other, and connect globally... The Deputy Secretary-General assessed that Vietnam is in the process of becoming a major power. The United Nations hopes that Vietnam will actively participate in these UN processes, and that Vietnamese technology companies will not only contribute to socio -economic development domestically but also help address global issues, especially in developing countries, and promote South-South cooperation. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam is ready to play the role of host or co-host international events to promote multilateral understanding and cooperation in the fields of technology and artificial intelligence, including hosting the AI Governance Policy Forum. The Prime Minister requested the United Nations to continue supporting Vietnam in building a legal framework and international standards on technology governance; promoting technology transfer; and providing financial support, human resource training, and management science in the field of technology, especially AI.Vietnamnet.vn
