Mass cultural and artistic movement in Chieng Sai

Currently, Chieng Sai commune has 12 art troupes from villages and schools, regularly practicing traditional songs and dances of the Thai, Dao, Muong, and Mong ethnic groups, recreating customs, festivals, and the working and production life of the people. In addition, each village has an active art troupe, which is the core of exchange programs and performances at holidays, New Year, and village festivals.

Every evening, after work, the En village cultural house resounds with the sound of drums and the singing of the village art troupe. Ms. Dang Thi Khuyen, the team leader, said: We usually practice in the evening, two to three times a week. The team members include both the elderly and the young, and everyone is very enthusiastic about practicing. Every time the commune or village organizes a festival or a Great Unity Day, everyone is eager to participate, because they can both exchange and preserve and promote their ethnic cultural identity.

The cultural and artistic movement deployed by Chieng Sai commune is closely linked with the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life" and build new rural areas, maintain and successfully organize the Harvest Festival of the Dao ethnic group and the traditional boat racing festival of the ethnic groups in the commune. From 2024 to now, Chieng Sai commune has organized 8 cultural and sports exchanges at the commune level, attracting a large number of people to participate, bringing a vibrant and united atmosphere between the villages, arousing pride in the cultural identity of the community. Up to now, the whole commune has 8/10 villages achieving the title of cultural village, over 70% of households achieving the title of cultural family. The spiritual life of the people is increasingly rich, the rate of people participating in cultural and sports activities regularly reaches 50% of the population.

In addition, Chieng Sai commune also focuses on investing in infrastructure to serve cultural activities. In the period of 2020-2025, the commune has built 3 new village cultural houses; invested in sound, lighting and stage equipment for village cultural houses, creating a spacious community living space, convenient for organizing meetings, performances and artistic practices.

Mr. Vang A Chu, Chairman of the People's Committee of Chieng Sai Commune, informed: The commune always pays attention to developing the mass cultural and artistic movement, considering this an important task in building a cultural life at the grassroots level. However, this activity is currently facing many difficulties due to limited funding and inadequate equipment for practice and performance. The commune is continuing to mobilize support resources from the State and promote socialization, maintaining and developing the movement more effectively and sustainably.

Amidst the ever-changing rhythm of life, the xoe dances, cau xap Thai, dang Muong, Dao dances, the sounds of the Khen and Mong flutes still echo in the villages of Chieng Sai commune. The mass cultural and artistic movement here is spreading strongly, creating a joyful and exciting atmosphere, connecting the community, contributing to building an increasingly rich and civilized homeland.
