Dong Hoa Ward successfully introduced Japanese sesame varieties for local cultivation.

Currently, farmers in Dong Hoa ward are harvesting medicinal sesame. This is the first leaf harvest after 70 days of planting. On a total area of ​​4 hectares, the leaf yield is about 96 tons. With the current purchase price of 6,000 VND/kg, it is estimated that farmers have an income of 576 million VND.

According to the People's Committee of Dong Hoa Ward, this pilot model will be implemented from 2024 at the request of Hong Dai Viet Production and Trade Company Limited (under the Central Center for Research and Production of Medicinal Materials). This company commits to purchasing all post-harvest output to use as raw materials for processing medicinal materials under a contract with the Japanese Tenshikai Company.

The locality assigned the Hoa Xuan Tay 1 General Agricultural Service Cooperative to gather people and sign a contract with the company for a trial planting. Unlike the traditional Vietnamese sesame plant that takes seeds, the Japanese sesame plant only takes leaves and stems for medicinal purposes. This is the first time the Japanese sesame plant has been successfully planted in the locality.

Japanese sesame variety is suitable for the soil and grows well in the fields in Dong Hoa ward.

Before the trial planting, the Japanese side and the company surveyed the local soil many times. When the soil and climate were found suitable, they signed a contract with the cooperative to conduct a trial planting on an area of ​​4 hectares. The Japanese side provided the seeds, the company provided guidance on planting techniques and took responsibility for purchasing all the output after harvest.

This is the first harvest, the second harvest is 20 days later, so the economic value will increase many times. Currently, Hoa Xuan Tay 1 General Agricultural Service Cooperative is mobilizing people to expand the planting area to 10 hectares to meet the raw material needs for medicinal herb production of partners.
