Promoting Vietnam's image to Southeast Asian academics in the United States

Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung emphasized the role of the younger generation in promoting the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to be upgraded from 2023.

In a series of events marking the 30th anniversary of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations, the Vietnamese Embassy in Washington, in collaboration with the Walsh School of Foreign Service (SFS) at Georgetown University, organized a solemn graduation ceremony for masters in Southeast Asian studies at the Vietnam House.

According to VNA correspondent in Washington, speaking at the welcoming ceremony and congratulating the 2025 master's degree graduates in Southeast Asian studies, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung emphasized the role of the Southeast Asian studies program at SFS as one of the leading prestigious training programs in regional studies and foreign policy.

The Ambassador particularly emphasized the importance of building bridges between the two countries, while encouraging the younger generation to play an active role in promoting the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to be upgraded from 2023.

Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung said that in the context of the world facing many changes, young generations, especially those who are well-educated and have a deep understanding of the region, will play a key role in creating a cooperative and stable future.

He encouraged students to become strong "bridges" between Vietnam and the United States, accompanying the process of building and strengthening Vietnam-US relations in the new development stage.

The year 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United States (1995-2025), a milestone of profound historical significance. From former enemies, the two countries have overcome their differences to build a comprehensive, forward-looking partnership.

Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung emphasized that this event is a practical activity, contributing to spreading the spirit of reconciliation, cooperation and mutual development between the people of the two countries, especially the young generation.

Professor Evan Medeiros, Chair of the Department of Asian Studies and Senior Scholar at Georgetown University, thanked the Vietnamese Embassy for organizing the event, creating opportunities for students to directly approach the Ambassador, Embassy staff and experience Vietnamese cultural space.

Mr. Evan Medeiros expressed his deep impression of Vietnam's miraculous development in recent decades. He highly appreciated Vietnam's increasing role in regional and global issues, and expressed his expectation for the contributions of the graduates in promoting understanding and cooperation between the two countries.

The event is not only an occasion to honor the academic achievements of students but also creates an opportunity for international friends to experience Vietnamese culture through traditional cuisine and a space imbued with national identity.

The intimate and open atmosphere of the ceremony created conditions for students, lecturers and guests to discuss future cooperation prospects, especially in the fields of education, research and foreign affairs./.
