Quang Tri trains to improve community capacity in sustainable tourism development

On December 8, in Quang Tri, the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions organized a training course to improve capacity for local community groups, with priority given to women and ethnic minorities to ensure equality and enhance the role of the people as subjects.

This is an activity to support the community to proactively participate in developing sustainable livelihoods, while effectively implementing the National Target Program on socio -economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas by 2025.

The training content focuses on building groups of households linked in production and business along the value chain; trade promotion skills; product development and consumption. Trainees are equipped with practical knowledge on building local OCOP brands, product promotion, applying social networks in marketing, as well as market approach methods suitable for mountainous conditions.

Within the framework of the program, experts also spent considerable time discussing tourism development associated with indigenous culture, creating sustainable livelihoods and increasing income for people. Community tourism models, agricultural tourism , homestays, and experiential products were introduced as solutions to hunger eradication and poverty reduction, while contributing to attracting domestic and foreign tourists. The training course is expected to help the community improve its capacity to manage and operate economic models, confidently bring local products and services to the open market, thereby contributing to the goal of sustainable development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the new period.

Speaking at the training course, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration Pham Van Thuy emphasized the important role of the community in developing sustainable tourism in ethnic minority and mountainous areas. He said that tourism only truly creates value when people become the subject of the product, directly participate in business activities and benefit from local development. Deputy Director Pham Van Thuy suggested that localities continue to focus on preserving and promoting traditional cultural values, considering this as the foundation for building unique tourism products. The Deputy Director encouraged people to boldly develop the homestay model, build experiential services associated with local life, cuisine, crafts, festivals, etc. to create attractive tourism products to attract domestic and foreign tourists. At the same time, the Deputy Director also proposed to link up to organize traditional art performances, contributing to preserving ethnic cultural heritage, while enhancing the attractiveness of the destination. These activities not only bring new income to the community but also contribute to promoting the image of Vietnamese culture in a realistic and vivid way.

The Deputy Director believes that through capacity building training courses, the community will have more knowledge and skills to effectively participate in tourism development, contributing to the goal of increasing livelihoods, sustainable poverty reduction, and socio-economic development for ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

At the end of the training course, all trainees highly appreciated the practicality of the program when providing knowledge and skills directly related to the needs of local livelihood development. The contents on production linkage, trade promotion, OCOP product development, community tourism development and indigenous cultural preservation have opened up new approaches, helping people to be more confident in the process of participating in the implementation of the National Target Program. The training results are an important premise for the community to continue to apply in practice, promote the role of the subject, and contribute to promoting sustainable socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the coming time.
