Quang Tri Province conducts training to enhance community capacity in sustainable tourism development.

On December 8th, in Quang Tri province, the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions organized a capacity-building training course for local community groups, prioritizing women and ethnic minorities to ensure equality and enhance the role of the people as stakeholders.

This activity aims to support communities in actively participating in sustainable livelihood development, while effectively implementing the National Target Program for socio -economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas by 2025.

The training content focuses on building production and business linkage groups along the value chain; trade promotion skills; and product development and consumption. Trainees are equipped with practical knowledge on building local OCOP brands, promoting products, applying social media in marketing, and methods for accessing markets suitable for mountainous regions.

Within the framework of the program, experts also devoted significant time to discussing tourism development linked to local culture, creating sustainable livelihoods and increasing income for the people. Community tourism models, agricultural tourism, homestays, and experiential products were introduced as solutions to poverty reduction, while also contributing to attracting domestic and international tourists. The training course is expected to help the community improve its capacity to manage and operate economic models, confidently bring local products and services to a wider market, thereby contributing to the goal of sustainable development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the new phase.

Speaking at the training course, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration Pham Van Thuy emphasized the important role of the community in developing sustainable tourism in ethnic minority and mountainous areas. He argued that tourism only truly creates value when people become the main stakeholders of the product, directly participating in business activities and benefiting from the local development. Deputy Director Pham Van Thuy suggested that localities continue to focus on preserving and promoting traditional cultural values, considering this as the foundation for building distinctive tourism products. He encouraged people to boldly develop homestay models and create experiential services linked to local life, cuisine, handicrafts, festivals, etc., in order to create attractive tourism products that attract domestic and international tourists. At the same time, the Deputy Director also proposed linking the organization of traditional art performances, contributing to the preservation of the cultural heritage of ethnic minorities and enhancing the attractiveness of the destination. These activities not only generate new income for the community but also contribute to promoting the image of Vietnamese culture in an authentic and vibrant way.

The Deputy Director believes that through capacity-building training courses, the community will gain more knowledge and skills to participate effectively in tourism development, contributing to the goal of increasing livelihoods, sustainably reducing poverty, and developing the socio-economic conditions of ethnic minority and mountainous regions.

At the end of the training course, all participants highly appreciated the practicality of the program, which provided knowledge and skills directly related to the needs of livelihood development in the locality. Content on production linkages, trade promotion, OCOP product development, community tourism development, and indigenous cultural preservation opened up new approaches, helping people to be more confident in participating in the National Target Program. The training results are an important foundation for the community to continue applying the knowledge in practice, promoting its role as a key player, and contributing to the sustainable socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the future.
