The regrets of Vietnamese shooting
After winning the gold medal in the 10m air rifle medley on December 12th, Mong Tuyen is expected to continue bringing home gold for Vietnamese shooting in the women's 10m air rifle individual event. Hopes for a gold medal are high with three shooters competing: Mong Tuyen, Phi Thanh Thao, and Nguyen Thi Thao.
In the qualifying round, Thanh Thảo made a strong impression with 627.6 points after 60 shots, breaking the SEA Games record (equal to Indonesian shooter Karini). Meanwhile, Mộng Tuyền finished 6th, securing a place in the final, while Nguyễn Thị Thảo was eliminated after finishing 13th (only 8 athletes qualified for the final). The combined performance of these three athletes gave Vietnam's shooting team a total score of 1872.8 and a silver medal in the women's 10m air rifle team event.
In the final, Thanh Thảo and Mộng Tuyền had a rather impressive start. At some points, the two Vietnamese athletes shared the top two positions, surpassing the Indonesian pair. However, Thanh Thảo unexpectedly suffered from nerves, repeatedly making unsatisfactory shots and having to finish in 5th place. Mộng Tuyền had to directly compete against the two Indonesian shooters. The athlete born in 2003 had a few moments of lack of concentration, scoring under 10 twice in a row and winning the bronze medal with regret.

Mong Tuyen blamed herself.
After the final, Mong Tuyen was still very upset. She shared: "I feel so sorry and disappointed in myself for not performing well in the shooting round. I'm so sad, I don't know what else to say. When I heard everyone cheering, I was quite confident and had a series of good shots. In the last few rounds, I started to get distracted, thinking more about the score, not focusing on the strategy, so the result wasn't as expected. Please let me be sad for this moment and focus on the next competition."
My mental state wasn't completely stable, leading to less-than-ideal results. When Thao and I were leading, I felt more confident because I had a teammate by my side. Then, when the standings changed and Thao was eliminated, my mental state became a bit heavy. As the only Vietnamese athlete left, I felt pressured to give my all for the country. Shooting requires maintaining focus throughout the competition; even a few fleeting thoughts can change everything."
At the 33rd SEA Games, Mong Tuyen also competed in one more event: the women's 50m air rifle.
