In 2013, Samsung launched the Galaxy Gear smartwatch with a rectangular screen. The company then did the same with the Gear 2 and Gear Live. Since then, Samsung seems to have been completely committed to round-screen smartwatches. However, things could soon change if the latest reports are accurate.
Will the Galaxy Watch7, launching this year, have a square or rectangular screen?
Reports indicate that the South Korean company will once again produce square or rectangular smartwatches, although this time they will be branded Galaxy Watch instead of Galaxy Gear or Gear as before. The reports claim this idea is currently being considered internally at Samsung with "enthusiasm" and that the transition to square/rectangular shapes "is highly likely to happen."
It remains unclear whether the new rectangular Galaxy Watch will be the Galaxy Watch7, which is expected to launch sometime between early and mid-July this year, or whether we'll have to wait until 2025 to see the new design. The highlight of the July event will still be the next-generation foldable smartphones from the South Korean company.
If the design change happens, more news about Samsung's new smartwatch will likely emerge in the near future.
