DNVN - On December 2-3, 2024, the Vietnam Software and Information Technology Services Association (VINASA), in collaboration with the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications, will organize the Vietnam - Asia Smart City Conference 2024 with the theme "Smart Cities - Digital Economy - Sustainable Development".

According to information provided by the Organizing Committee at the press conference on November 26th, the event is expected to attract more than 2,000 domestic and international delegates, including government leaders, representatives from ministries and agencies, and many leading speakers in the fields of urban smartening, technology, and sustainable development.

The conference aims to provide technological solutions and management strategies to help cities modernize their infrastructure and develop smart and sustainable services for their residents; it is positioned to be a prestigious annual gathering of smart city experts from the region and around the world .

Smart cities have become a global urban development strategy, focusing on digital transformation and the application of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and big data to address urban management challenges, improve living conditions for residents, increase well-being, promote economic development, and protect the environment.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung - Director of the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications, and Ms. Nguyen Thu Giang - Vice President and General Secretary of VINASA, discussed the conference at a press conference.

Smart cities are not just urban development models, but also strategies to boost economic growth and improve the quality of life. In Asia, many countries such as South Korea, Japan, and Singapore have built exemplary smart cities, focusing on the application of AI, IoT, and renewable energy technologies to address the challenges of urbanization and climate change.

Initiatives such as the high-tech zone in Busan (South Korea) and Singapore's Smart Nation project are prime examples. According to AIJMR, the application of AI to public transportation in Singapore has reduced train and bus waiting times by 33-50%. Barcelona, with its IoT sensors, has improved waste collection routes, reducing operating costs for its waste collection network by 20%. Amsterdam, through smarter energy analysis and allocation, has saved 15% of fossil fuels.

Smart cities have also been receiving close attention from the Government, Ministries, and relevant agencies. On August 1, 2018, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 950/QD-TTg: Approving the Project for the Sustainable Development of Smart Cities in Vietnam for the period 2018-2025 and orientation to 2030; with the specific goal of "forming smart city chains in the North, Central, South, and Mekong Delta regions by 2030, with Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Can Tho as the core, forming a network of interconnected smart cities."

To date, 48 out of 63 provinces and cities in Vietnam have implemented smart city projects. While Vietnamese cities have made significant progress, challenges remain regarding finance, resources, and infrastructure synchronization. This conference will be an opportunity to share experiences from cities in the region, and to connect investors and strategic partners to develop sustainable smart urban solutions.

Hanoi, in particular, with its rapid technological development, has enormous potential to improve the city and accelerate the smartification of urban areas. Many smart city projects, smart urban areas, and smart technology and industrial zones are becoming symbols of breakthroughs and progress: VinGroup - VinCity and Vinhomes Smart City projects, BRG Group and Sumitomo Corporation - Nhat Tan - Noi Bai urban area...

The Vietnam-Asia Smart City Conference 2024 is organized to collaborate with the Government, agencies, ministries, and businesses in guiding, developing, and promoting the application of smart technologies in Vietnam, while also creating a landmark for the development of smart cities in Vietnam, making it a destination for investors in the region and around the world.

The conference consisted of 8 sessions, including plenary and thematic sessions: Smart Cities - Digital Economy - Sustainable Development; Smart Cities - Data-driven, flexible city governance and management; Digital solutions, infrastructure, and platforms to promote the digital economy and sustainable development; Semiconductor industry strategy: A new driving force for Vietnam and Hanoi; Excellent technology solutions to promote green and smart cities; Green and smart mobility for sustainable smart city development; NetZero - Environment and energy towards zero-emission cities by 2050; Smart homes for health and convenience…

Within the framework of the conference, the Smart City Award ceremony, the VietFuture Innovation Award ceremony – an innovative startup award for students – and Japan ICT Day will be held. A side exhibition and business networking activities will also be organized.

The Vietnam-Asia Smart City Conference 2024 provides a collaborative environment and promotes partnerships at various levels, opening up opportunities for strong connections between businesses and the government, or between domestic businesses and international organizations. Simultaneously, the conference serves as a platform for exchanging and disseminating knowledge, fostering smart city development, and contributing to the breakthrough development of digital government, digital economy, and digital society in Vietnam.
